The moment Akuma had woken up, Y/N had come back from his walk. He walked out of the room and saw Y/N cooking. He was flipping pancakes and the kitchen counter was a mess with batter dripping from the bowl and a bit of flour on the ground as well.

"What's with the mess?" Akuma's soft voice was heard throughout the apartment. Y/N turned around and gave him a smile. "Just having a bit of fun!" Akuma raised a brow. He wanted to say something about Y/N's tired expression, but his mind refused to utter a word. All he could say was "okay.." under his breath before sitting on the island counter.

After a while, pancakes slowly piled on a single plate which was passed towards Akuma. Akuma started to eat it, enjoying the plain, yet sweet, taste of them. He drizzled some caramel on them.

"I kinda failed at making macarons last night so I spent all night making pancake batter," Y/N chuckled to himself.

Akuma found it odd that he spent the night making pancake batter instead of sleeping. He thought that Y/N must be an odd adult to be spending his time making batter. He just continued to eat his pancakes.

"Speaking of which, when should I enroll you into school?"

Akuma froze, fork still in hand. Just the thought of school made him frozen in place, like a deer in headlights.

He didn't like school. Not in the slightest! Not after what happened with them. Just the thought gave him shivers down his spine.

"Hey, you good?" Akuma flinched at the sudden hand on his shoulder. "Huh? Uh– Yeah, I think so..." he muttered softly. Y/N just shrugged a shoulder before patting his back and going back to making batter for the next day.

Throughout the morning, Akuma felt numb. Every time he thought of school, of them, another shiver went down his spine. Y/N noticed his blank state and looked like he had the urge to confront him about it, but he didn't act on that urge.

Akuma watched Y/N walk away and do his own thing. Akuma looked back at his leftover pancakes after breakfast. He didn't have the appetite anymore.

"Look, you don't have to eat them." Akuma looked up to see Y/N by his shoulder. "Sorry..." he muttered as Y/N took the plate away. "It's fine, I can just feed the dog next door with them– Wait... Can dogs eat caramel?" Y/N paused in place for a few seconds with the plate in hand before placing it down on the counter and searching for an answer on the internet.

"Oh shit! They can't! I guess they would get diabetes with how sugary caramel is..." Y/N muttered the last few words. He grabbed the plate and dumped the pancakes into the trashcan and placed the plate into the sink. "By the way, you don't have to apologize for losing your appetite. I always lose my appetite whenever someone talks about something I don't like." He smiled. Akuma just looked at him with a blank expression.

With a huge sigh, he leaned across the counter to look at Akuma from across. "I get that you don't want to go to school, but you need education." Akuma shivered at the word, "school."

"You didn't go to school..." Akuma mumbled. "Huh?" Y/N inches closer to him. "You didn't go to school!" Akuma yelled a bit. "Huh?! Of course I did! I even graduated!" Y/N said proudly.

"Then why are you a villain?"

That question left Y/N speechless. His offended expression changed to a blank one. He looked like he was thinking, as his pupils slowly moved side to side.

He looked back at Akuma's eyes, waiting for an answer. Y/N opened his mouth to say something, but quickly closed it again. He was lost for words? Akuma wondered. He was surprised to see Y/N, an adult who always seems to have an answer, to be speechless.

"Well?" He raised a brow. Y/N sighs and just looks at him with a smile. "First of all, I'm not a villain. I'm someone between villains and heroes. I don't apply to those labels." He started. "I wish I would've done something better but... Fate had other plans." Akuma could tell Y/N's smile was fake.

"Could you maybe try going to school? Or maybe tell me what's bothering you." Akuma's eyes trailed off, and didn't dare to look at his caretaker.

"Is school the problem? Or a student from your previous school?" Akuma nodded.

"A student?" Akuma nodded again.

"Does he study at Sakura Elementary School?" Akuma shook his head.

"Then you don't have to worry. The school I'm thinking of enrolling you in, he's not in it. I'm sure you'll be fine. If you have any problems, tell me and I'll deal with it!" Y/N pointed to himself with a proud grin on his face.

Akuma didn't know how to respond other than laugh. He thought it was funny how Y/N was acting like a dad.

He paused.

Y/N was a father to him in some way. Even though he missed his own father, he felt like Y/N was filling the void his father left when he abandoned him for a woman. Just thinking of it gave a bad taste in his mouth.

"So, what do you think?" Akuma hesitated to answer. He thought about it for a few minutes. It wouldn't be so bad, and he could use the outdoors and education to good use. He wasn't sure on friends but he's sure his caretaker wouldn't mind.

Akuma looked up to him with a small smile and nodded. Y/N smiled gleefully when he responded positively. "I'm glad you found the courage. You should be able to join next week." Y/N walked away with his phone in hand, dialing a number on it.

Let's hope Akuma has a good time!
