I woke up again, I'd been knocked out by all the smoke in the air. Wait, smoke? I opened my eyes and looked around. All I saw was smoke and no sign of Maeve.

The smoke was getting to me now. I couldn't breathe. I started to get up. I could see a little now. I was in a house kneeling under a staircase. It was Nighttime there were people yelling and screaming. The smoke was coming from a huge fire in the kitchen.

Everyone seem to be out of the house, but me. I could see the open door. I could get out, but in my path was a huge flame. It was guarding the exit.

I looked through the door to see firefighters. They tried putting it out the fire with water, but it only got bigger.

I looked behind me to see an open door to the bathroom.

I ran inside and knew what to do. I grabbed the first towel I saw. I turned on the faucet ran the towel under it. I held it up to my face. I can finally breathe.

A ran out of the bathroom, about to build up the courage to run through the flame. I heard someone yelling for help. It sounded like it was coming from upstairs. I had to get out, but I couldn't leave them there.

I ran upstairs. There was more fire upstairs. I heard the scream again. I ran into what looked like a girls bedroom. There was a girl trying to push open the window next to her bed to escape. Still screaming. She had long red hair she's about my age.

She started to cough. Then she turned around and saw me. Her almost glowing green eyes stared at me.
"Who are you?" she coughed.
"I'm Maddie, I'm going to help you" I said, putting my towel on her face.

We both bolted downstairs. We headed straight out the door.

We were standing outside, gazing at all the people screaming and crying. The firefighters were still putting out the fire.

A man and a woman came up to us and hugged the girl I'd saved. They started crying and saying "I'm glad you're ok!". They were still talking and crying with her when I realized something. The man was young, but the way he dressed and his way of talking was really weird. Then the woman she looked more from this generation. It's weird to explain but... I can't put my finger on it. Something about them just seemed weird.

Something about all the people here seems weird. They all seem so different... too different. Some of them acted like they were from the 1800s. Others from the 2000s. From the 1900s.

I suddenly had an idea.
"Umm, excuse me. What year is it?" I said.

A bunch of people started murmuring. Someone said 1832, another said 1989, then the others said bunch of other different years.

I was shocked. I hadn't travelled back in time, but instead, I was stuck somewhere where others had.

The red haired girl came forward.
"Welcome to the Isle of the Lost" she said, " My name is Amalie, everyone hears from a different year. We all got trapped in the labyrinth and we created this community. I am personally from the year 1813. I have no idea what year it actually is now but that's how I am."

"Don't you miss the real world? What about your family?"

She took a second to think. "Of course I miss my family, but it's not safe to leave. I'm not allowed to leave."

"Of course you're allowed to leave." I checked my watch, "there's 3 minutes until another trap door opens up, this could be your chance".

"You don't get it! The labyrinth is the dangerous place. If we leave, we might not even make it to the real world"

That night, another family had invited me to stay at their house along with Amalie. We have to share a room. I had to convince her to escape with me. She couldn't stay here. The only thing I hadn't considered was that her family isn't around anymore. But she should still escape this place. It's like she's trapped.

The family we were staying with, the Johnsons. Led us up to our room. I sat on the bed and pulled out the diary. I flipped a new page and read...You will find Cassandra, she will tell you what's wrong.

I had no idea what that meant. Maybe she was the creator of the labyrinth that I was looking for? Maybe she was the key to finding Maeve. I hoped so I missed a Maeve a lot. All I could hope that was okay.
"Hey" said Amalie walking into the room.
"Hey" I said.
"I'm sorry about earlier, it's just that the people here are really strict that we don't leave"
"Why you should have your own free will"
"I don't know"
" Well, what do you say we get out of here?"
"We can't they'll catch us!"
"Don't worry I've got a plan"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was still late at night, past midnight. Everyone in the house was asleep. So that's when we struck. We packed a few things in our backpack like food and essentials. Amalie opened the window. Our plan was to jump out the window and find a trapdoor. We hoped to do this in under 3 minutes. We jumped out the window onto a tree and slid down. we ran across the grass and into a deeper part of the town. Passed all the houses was a huge forest. We could see a glowing light. There was the trapdoor, our exit.
We ran towards the trap door. We were about to jump in when Amalie stopped me.
"Wait, are you sure about this?" She said.
"Positive" I answered. "We have to get you home and find my best friend, Maeve".
Then she grabbed my hand and we jumped in.
