Getting closer to eachother (rewrite)

Sakusa was really dreading going to volleyball practice today. Maybe he should skip? No he didn't want to fall behind. Ugh this is difficult! Even though he was good at the sport he actually found it quite boring and would rather read a book than be physically active.

He was having a battle in his head while trying to concentrate on the lesson he was in. But all he could think about was going to practice and not be yelled at or being lazy and ditching practice ending with him getting in trouble. UGH WHY WAS IT SO DIFFICULT TO DECIDE?!?

Sakusa was exhausted from fighting with himself, he decided to go to the nurses office to try and sleep it off, it was working for the most part. He got woken up by Atsumu walking into the room, he had a box in his hand. "Sakusa? Are you ok?" Atsumu noticed the boy as he walked in the room extremely worried, putting the box down on the nurse's desk, running up to him but didn't touch him.

With Sakusa being half asleep he was confused why someone was talking to him or was so close for that matter. "Yeah, I'm fine. Leave me alone." He said in the groggiest voice waving his hand in the air. "I was just checking up on you." Atsumu playfully backing away trying not to get hit. "I don't need you checking up on me." The atmosphere in the room completely shifted. Sakusa was being cold to Atsumu. He sat up to face him looking him in the eyes.

He was still half asleep but knew well enough what was going on around him. "Come on Sakusa! I was worried about you!" Atsumu sat down on the bed next to Sakusa being mindful not to touch him. "I know you're not used to people being worried about you, but you have me now! So please lean onto me, we're friends after all!" Sakusa had this remarkable urge to hug Atsumu, but stayed put.

"I'm sorry Atsumu, it's hard to let people care about me when everyone's only ever hurt me when they get close." Sakusa put his head down guilty about the situation. "It's not going to change overnight Sakusa, you can take your time. I just wanted you to know that you don't have to act cold and standoffish with me. Ok? I'll take care of you!"

I lifted my head to look at him, giving him the best smile I could muster. "Thank you Atsumu." We laughed lifting the tension in the air. "What were you doing in here anyways Atsumu?" Oh right there was a reason he was there. "Oh I was dropping something off for a teacher." He should probably go back to class now.

"Well I have to get back to class now, I'm glad that you're ok! I'll see at practice later." Atsumu stood up, giving Sakusa a smile and walking to the door. "See you." Sakusa waved at Atsumu's back and he walked out. That definitely wasn't how Sakusa would have expected any of their interactions to go, but was glad that Atsumu was his friend.

Waking up from his nap that he was finally able to take he looked at the time on his phone, it read 4:30. "Oh shit! I'm going to be late to practice." Sakusa said quickly getting off the bed and running to the gym just in time. He walking in the door scanning the room to look for Atsumu but couldn't find him.

Where was he? Did he get lost? I should have told him how to get to the gym so this didn't happen. Sakusa was lost in thought as he was starting to walk over to the locker room's but stopped in his tracks when he heard the coach say. "Ok everyone let's start stretching."

"Wait we're missing someone!" Sakusa shouted it loud enough to echo throughout the gym. "We can only wait for so long Sakusa." The coach was getting impatient. "I know coach, but he'll be here soon." Sakusa walked back over to the door and stuck his head out to see if he would show up. Luckily Sakusa wasn't wrong, the blond boy showed up drenched in sweat from running.

"Where were you?" Sakusa asked worried stepping back into the gym. "I didn't know where the gym was! I had to ask 5 people to be able to find it." Sakusa laughed at Atsumu. "Yeah, I probably should have told you where the gym was." Atsumu's heart raced as he saw Sakusa's beautiful laugh. All of his teammates were confused, they had never seeing Sakusa laugh before.

Everyone snapped out of it when the coach said. "Everyone that's not dressed out, hurry and go to the locker room and change. You've wasted enough time already." Atsumu and Sakusa were embarrassed being called out like that but did as the coach said.

Walking into the locker room they both quickly got changed and met all of their teammates back out on the gym floor. "Who's the new guy?" One of their teammates whispered. "Is it someone Sakusa knows? They were laughing like they knew each other." Another one said.

The way his teammates were talking made Sakusa mad, all they ever did was gossip. Atsumu noticed Sakusa's ever growing anger and put a stop to the speculation's. Walking over to the kids who were gossiping he said "Stop talking about someone behind their back. It's not nice and honestly it's quite disrespectful."

They all just looked at him and nodded. Atsumu walked back over to Sakusa waiting for the next instructions. "You didn't have to do that you know." Sakusa leaned in closer to Atsumu almost whispering in his ear. "But I wanted to." Atsumu's face got bright from the sudden closeness of the two.

Practice went on as normal, Atsumu was a little lost but it wasn't too bad. Sakusa helped with a lot of the stuff he didn't know. After practice had ended they were the only two left behind as all the others had already left. "Today was the most fun I had at practice yet Atsumu." They were walking out of the gym going to the main entrance to go home. "Yeah, I've never had a practice like that one."

They didn't want to part ways but they living in opposite directions. "So, I'll see you later?" Sakusa was acting shy. "Yeah, I'll see you later." They had turned away from each other to walk home when Sakusa remembered he didn't get his phone number. "Hey! Wait Atsumu!" Atsumu turned around. "I didn't get your phone number." Sakusa ran up to Atsumu as they had gotten quite far.
