The final breaking point came the day Teeth decided to leave home for good. He was 18, and he and Floyd had been talking about starting a real band, making a go of it on the road. When he broke the news to his mother, the ensuing argument was the worst they’d ever had. Mama Teeth screamed and cried, calling him ungrateful and selfish. For the first time, Teeth didn’t freeze. He didn’t apologize. He stood there, trembling, and said, "I’m sorry, Mama, but this is who I am. And this is what I need to do."

Floyd was waiting outside when Teeth walked out of the house, a bag slung over his shoulder. He looked back one last time, seeing his father standing in the doorway, silent as ever. Their eyes met for a brief moment, and Daddy Teeth gave a small nod, an acknowledgment that, in his own quiet way, he understood.

Teeth climbed into Floyd's van, heart pounding. Floyd looked at him, a mix of concern and pride in his eyes. "You okay?" he asked. Teeth took a deep breath, looking at the house one last time before turning to Floyd. "I am now," he said. And for the first time in his life, he felt free.

From that day forward, Gerald Jr was no longer bound by the expectations of his family. He took on the persona of Dr. Teeth, a name Floyd had jokingly given him one night during a jam session. "You've got the chops," Floyd had said, grinning. "And you've got the teeth for it." The name stuck, becoming a symbol of his new life—one where he was free to be himself, to make music, and to love without fear.

Floyd was there for him every step of the way, guiding him, supporting him, and loving him for who he truly was. In turn, Dr. Teeth supported Floyd on his own journey of self-discovery, knowing that one day, Floyd would fully embrace his identity as Floyd, leaving "Fionna" behind in the process. They were two souls intertwined, bound by their love for music and each other, ready to take on whatever the world threw at them.
