SABRINA
I hate tension.
I blame it on my upbringing, but then it is one of those things that makes my heart race, makes my throat dry, and makes my skin prickle like a thousand needles are poking me.
Because with every tension, eventually there's an explosion.
I pushed the green peas around on my plate, and my eyes glared down at the table. There was so much silence in the room that the sound of a pindrop would be loud, and the air was so thick that it was almost impossible to breathe.
I didn't think this through.
I was so desperate to get back at Mike for the hurt he caused me that I didn't stop to think that coming here would be a mistake.
I dared to look up from the table, taking a quick look around. Both Ezekiel and Ennette look like they would rather be anywhere but here; if looks could kill me and William would be a hundred feet under.
And for William?
William was kicked back in his seat, taking down his food with a grin on his face, obviously enjoying the tension.
I let out a sigh, my hand playing with the hem of my dress as I took a small sip of my water.
"So-" Ezekiel cleared his throat, his eyes dashing between us. "How did this happen?"
"Yeah, how did this happen?" Mike piped in, staring intensely at me.
"Funny story, actually." William smiled, and I turned to look at him. His eyes were on Mike as he spoke.
"We met at a nightclub."
"William," I whispered, but he ignored me.
Ezekiel's brows are raised in surprise. "Night club?"
"Yeah," he said, leaning against his seat, resting his hand over the back of my chair. I looked over to him with a plea in my eyes, but he still kept his eyes on Mike.
"After Mike cheated on Sabrina, she went to the nightclub to get drunk, and there we met, had sex, and the next day we met in the meeting room," he turned to me with a smile, rubbing my forearm, "and we've been together ever since."
He turned back to Mike. "Losing her has been the best thing to happen to me, so I guess I have you to thank for that."
Mike's face turned red, his eyes ready to burst out of their socket. Everybody stiffened, and I sunked into my seat.
William, on the other hand, was beaming, his hand still running up and down my forearm.
"You cheated on Sabrina?" Ennette turned to Mike.
"With her best friend, Emily," William pitched in.
"With Emily?!" His father shouted.
Wait, how did he know that it was Emily that Mike cheated on me with? I know that I told him that Mike cheated on me with my best friend, but I know for a fact that I never told him her name.
Before I could ask, Mike spoke up: "Yeah, that's what you have been waiting for, isn't it? I know you've been eyeing her since the day I showed you her picture."
"What?" I stared between them.
"Oh, he didn't tell you?" Mike snot "Of course he didn't tell you. He wouldn't want to spoil the image he has going on."
"Tell me what?"
"Do you think the meeting between both of you was purely coincidental?"
"Be very careful, Mike." His voice was extremely low, sending shivers down my spine.
