The time was around midnight, I had my airpods in and my surroundings felt non-existent. The bright blue light from my computer blared my vision, my eyes squinted slightly so I could see what I was working on more efficiently. I was working on a late-night assignment, something I should have turned in ages ago, however I didn't, so here I am now.

My parents had been gone for a few days now, and for the next few. I was used to being left at home for some time without my parents, however I partially wished they didn't return this time. The anxious hum of my mind bugged me for the last few hours, it was something I couldn't shake off.

Me and my friends had caused severe property damage to some guy's residence. He deserved it, he definitely did. But what consequences would we face? Would I face it? I was the one that agreed to bring fireworks. I could have declined the offer, however I didn't. The thought didn't leave my mind for the entirety of my work, I probably didn't even do the assignment correctly. However, I was snapped out of my trance as I felt my phone buzz on the table, I had received a notification.

I grabbed my phone, pausing where I was in the assignment. Shit, it was a text from my mother. I inhaled deeply, she couldn't possibly know, could she? It's not like someone personally told her. I opened my phone, opening the text.

                                                                                                   Mom

-Wren were you on the news?

                                                                                         -Not to my knowledge

-Don't lie to me.                                                        -I seriously don't know mom-

–Why did the police call us then?

Oh fuck. That was definitely bad. I turned my phone off, placing it face-down back on the table. I sighed heavily, how much damage had we done to this dude's stuff? We lit like one firework, it wasn't very big even. We threw it in their yard, then left. Ah hell, did they have security cameras, is that how they found out? Shit, did it start a fire?

I picked my phone back up. I was going to ignore the text for now, and check the latest news. I scrolled for a second, before going to the search bar for more specific information. ''High School students commit arson and property destruction, 30k fine.'' A title read. I felt my heart stop briefly. Thirty thousand fucking dollars? I thought, before opening the article to read it. I skimmed through it mostly, however what mostly caught my eye was the headline reading ''Potential trial time'' That is definitely not something I wanted, at all.

I was feeling genuinely nervous now, my right leg bouncing anxiously under me. I needed to text my friends, see if they knew anything. I opened the texting app back up, before opening one of my friend's contacts.

-Kate did you see the news

-No, are we in trouble?

                                                                            -The police contacted my parents

-oh shit

-We might have to pay a 30k fine
