I was laying there in a mostly asleep state, occasionally waking up for seconds at a time due to noise, but the pain shoved me back under. Nonetheless, after a few hours I felt someone shaking me. ''Wrennnn... wake upppp'' I heard foggily above me, I couldn't tell who it was, just yet.
I opened one of my eyes wearily, the light from the lamp across the room making me flinch slightly. ''Huh...what...'' I hissed groggily, recoiling slightly. Oh shit, it was Becka. ''Come on you were asleep for like 7 hours!'' She yapped, shaking me harder, which was annoying me now.
Oh for god's sake- I sat up, looking to the side where she was sitting. ''What.'' I hissed, it came out pissier than intended. She was sitting on the bed, next to me. ''Oh- y'know, just wanted to check on you..'' She replied. I sighed, rubbing my eyes. ''Seven hours, huh.'' I murmured, looking around the tent, noticing that my backpack was sitting on the floor next to my friends'. I perked up slightly at that, Becka looking in that direction as well.
''Oh yea-'' She laughed slightly. ''That was a whole conversation, they took our phones and uh..'' She paused slightly. ''..Smashed them and took the batteries.'' I perked up instantly, A shock of confusion and a tinge of anger hitting me. ''They what.''
She laughed nervously again, fidgeting with her hands nervously. ''Yeah... that was a whole hour long conversation.. We also had to give them all of our food... we're going to eat that monster thing tonight.'' Those words were disgusting. I felt so pissed, my breathing increasing slightly.
She looked back at me, a slightly concerned look crossing her face. ''Hey, hey it's okay.'' She put a hand on my shoulder, the gesture making me jolt slightly, however I took a deep breath in response. ''Continue..'' I murmured. She smiled softly.
''Alright, so basically our phones are completely useless down here, as we're in a separate dimension that only theoretically exists, so yea.. They do not work. The batteries however, are incredibly useful. We are lucky they didn't kill us, they have to get almost all of the resources from creatures or plant life that lives in these sewers.'' She informed me, before taking a long breath at the end.
I stared at her blankly, I didn't even know what to say. How was she so calm? How? ''..Am I going to see my parents ever again..?'' I questioned, weakly. She paused, looking down towards the floor and opening her mouth to speak, nothing coming out. I felt empty. The tent was silent for a good ten seconds, all this information loading my brain.
She looked at me, putting her hand on my shoulder again. ''Hey, it's okay. Things are going to be different now, but we'll be in this together, right?'' She reassured me. Yea, right, sure. ''Yeah.. yeah. I guess we are.'' I replied. ''Everything will be fine, we will adapt, eventually.'' She replied.
I looked around the tent again. ''Holy shit, I don't remember the last time I drank water.'' I murmured, realizing just how thirsty I was. ''Oh yeah, that's another thing, a lot of the water here has to be purified. But I can certainly ask Xaeli if I can get you some-'' she responded. ''Xaeli, that weird looking guy?'' I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
She perked up instantly, gaining a more excited expression. ''Yea!! He's really cool, he mainly does fighting, killing stuff..'' She trailed off, looking into the distance longingly. ''Uh huh.. did he say anything important..?'' I questioned, looking at her quizzically.
She snapped out of the gaze. ''Huh- oh uh- I think.. I wasn't paying.. Much attention.. To what he was saying..'' She paused. ''Or- or him in general, yknow.'' She laughed nervously, rubbing the back of her neck awkwardly. ''I thought you said you thought he was cool?'' I questioned, raising an eyebrow.
An expression of realization crossed her face. ''Yeah- yeah I uh- I did- no, I didn't mean that.. he's fine- fine I guess.'' She sputtered in response. I stared at her for a few more moments, she kept looking at me and back to the wall. ''Well- haha- anyways- Cortez, yea- he taught me and Kate some stuff.. Like about common monsters, best fighting techniques, about some plants.. How to make cigarettes out of plants.. Important things.'' She cleared her throat.
