I flung my arms over my head instinctually, squeezing my eyes shut and flinching hard enough to trip backwards. The loud sound of the two large monsters slamming and disputing with one another ringing the air.
I stumbled against a wall, taking a few heavy gasps and directing my vision to the two. Xuxlu had her jaws clamped around its lower neck and shoulder region, her front claws digging into its right side. Her tail moved left to right in an effort to keep the sleeper down, who was scraping its overgrown talons over the ground in an attempt to struggle up, the wretched noise echoing like nails on a chalkboard as it strained to get up.
I was only around 2 feet away from the end of Xuxlu's tail from my position, so I had to make sure I didn't get smacked. I glanced over left, seeing Cortez scattered a few yards away, he looked conflicted, glancing between me and the fight. The sleeper made an angered roaring sound, before wrapping one of its tentacles around Xuxlu's snout and rolling sideways towards the water canal, tearing her teeth out of its side and using its other two tentacles to yank her claws out.
I tensed, praying she'd be able to regain herself. Xuxlu of course, made an attempt to lock the sleeper down again, rearing up on her back legs and preparing to bite into the beast. However, considering the two were teetering towards the canal, the sleeper spun around just as she stomped down, nailing her on the back of the head with its jaws and twisting around, throwing her into the canal.
A large splash of water raised into the air as the large beast crashed into the water, raining back down and spraying wet droplets around the surrounding area. The water was so filthy that Xuxlu's body wasn't visible. Shit. It wasn't visible. That means she wasn't coming up.
I was so concentrated and mortified watching the fight that I didn't even realize the sleeper was free. It shook off some blood flying off its raw skin. It looked down into the water and huffed, kicking a bit of dust into the already dirty water before turning around.
I scrambled off the wall, hoping that I could run and escape, however in my attempt to evade, the monster immediately noticed, dashed in front of me, and made a low and rumbly sound. It scratched at the ground and swished its tail behind itself, completely blocking my path.
Its body heaved with every breath, crimson blood poured down its injuries, crusting on its skin. I backed up against the wall, hitting it. I had nowhere to run. I couldn't see Cortez from this angle, I didn't even hear him at all this entire fight, I assumed he was just hiding, but what if he had run, leaving me? My mind filled with the overwhelming thoughts as the sleeper stared me down, it felt like it was trying to kill me with a panic induced heart attack.
The monstrosity swiped one of its claws towards me, I jumped, trying to move sideways, however my effort was futile. The creature struck me in the shoulder, slamming me to the floor. I tried to shift to my uninjured arm, however the motion was too fast, leaving me landing on my injury on the floor.
The pain struck sharp, I could feel the bandages grind against the concrete. I exclaimed painfully, trying to muffle myself from screaming too loud. the stunned fear snapping into a pain induced adrenaline. I started scrambling at the ground, clawing determinedly in an attempt to get out. The sleeper growled, a mixture of bemusement and almost.. pity..? It let go of me briefly.
I instantly jolted up, however a piercing weight slammed me back down, harder than the last one. I wheezed pathetically, my entire body throbbing with fear and tedious pain. This thing was toying with me. Having complete and utter enjoyment in watching me suffer, knowing I had no chance, no chance at all of getting out on my own.
I pushed my unimpaired hand against the ground, preparing to shove myself upwards, yet the action was interrupted with a very loud, raucous snapping sound in the near distance, echoing across the sewer, breaking the background silence. Loud enough to make the sleeper turn its head back, its grip on me loosening ever so slightly.
