Jungkook kept his distance from Taehyung from then on, no matter how many times Taehyung called him to his desk the next week Jungkook would try his best to keep himself professional.

The latter didn't seem to miss him back, no matter how much Jungkook's heart ached. Or else he would've surely asked Jungkook what was the matter. Taehyung simply acted as usual.

Not to mention he'd heard the rumours... that apparently Taehyung was known for going Casanova, just not with his employees. That was the only way Jungkook was special. /Special/. That word shouldn't be reserved for Jungkook.

But anyway, the older had no trouble getting rid of people that way, after being done with them. Taehyung was a privileged rich kid from the start, exceptionally good looks, prep school boy, SNU alumni- there's nothing he lacked on the outside, and thus he never had any trouble. Daddy's money always got Taehyung whatever he wanted, and now that he had his own money he knew what to do with it.

Those were the rumors, anyway.

Hence why Jungkook was so scared just to go Taehyung's apartment and deliver the files asked of him. He was scared Taehyung would pull him close- lips inches apart- and Jungkook would turn into pudding, unable to resist the elder.

Thus Jungkook had to try hard to shake himself out of his stupor as he rang the doorbell, fingers trembling- heart rate elastic.

And there Taehyung was. Looking as perfect as ever. Not a hair out of place.

Jungkook wanted to cry. Taehyung’s gaze was cold, no emotion shone in his beautiful coal black eyes- they were perfectly empty, yet Jungkook could lose himself in those black depths forever.

And here Jungkook was, a little boy- couldn’t get himself together. His mom getting sicker by the day. Jungkook was a scared little kid in front of Taehyung’s perfect life. The difference was imminent.

“I’ve gotta get going now-“ Jungkook said, as soon as he handed over the files, keeping his emotions at bay, trying to seem a little out together, “thank you, sir-“

“I missed you.”

Those words again. Jungkook couldn’t believe them. He looked up at Taehyung again, for once letting both of their gazes lock-

What he saw surprised him.

There were dark circles under his eyes, a sullenness on Taehyung’s usually immaculate face.

But what surprised Jungkook more were the noises coming out of the hotel room.

A woman's voice crooned from the shower, singing tunes of a sultry song as Jungkook heard the water run.

Taehyung frowned, suddenly- “That wasn’t supposed to-“

Taehyung was interrupted by a suddenly louder note from the shower, and couldn’t help but roll his eyes. “Listen, Jungkook-“

Jungkook’s heart clenched tight in his chest. Yeah, he was an idiot. Taehyung had already moved on in such a short time… He should’ve realized no one would want him. He wasn’t anything much- and it was like Jungkook suddenly had both eyes open.

Taehyung was bad for him.

“I’m sorry-“ it was hard to walk away, but Jungkook wouldn’t look back- he wouldn’t do that to himself, because if Taehyung saw him he’d run back to him in a second- forgetting everything.
