The morning sunlight filtered through the windows of Draven and Hermione's quarters, casting a soft glow over the room. Hermione sat at the small desk, poring over a stack of parchment, lost in thought. Draven paced back and forth, his mind consumed by the weight of the decision they faced.
As they contemplated their options, an owl swooped in through the open window, carrying a letter in its beak. Hermione looked up, surprised, as the owl landed gracefully on the desk, presenting the letter to her. She took it gently, recognizing the elegant handwriting of Acheron Rookwood.
"A letter from Rookwood," Hermione remarked, her brow furrowing in concern. "I wonder what he wants now."
Draven's heart sank as Hermione broke the seal and began to read. He knew what the letter would contain—the same offer, the same impossible choice. Anima Revertendum. The ancient spell that could cure him, but at the cost of his memories, his identity.
Hermione's eyes scanned the letter, her expression growing more serious with each passing moment. "He's asking about our decision regarding the spell," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "He wants to know if we're willing to proceed."
Draven stopped pacing, his heart pounding in his chest. He knew what he wanted—to reject the spell, to face whatever challenges lay ahead with Hermione by his side. But doubts gnawed at him, whispering that he was being selfish, unfair to Hermione.
Hermione looked up from the letter, her gaze meeting Draven's. "What do you think, Draven? Do you want to go through with it?"
Draven hesitated, his thoughts swirling in turmoil. "I... I don't know, Hermione. I don't want to lose everything that makes me who I am. But I also don't want to see you suffer because of me."
Hermione reached out and took his hand, her touch grounding him in reality. "Draven, whatever you decide, I'll support you. But remember, this is our decision, not just yours. We'll face whatever comes together, as a team."
Draven's eyes filled with tears as he looked at Hermione, overwhelmed by her unwavering love and support. "I love you, Hermione. I don't want to lose you, ever."
Hermione pulled him into a tight embrace, holding him close. "You won't lose me, Draven. Not now, not ever. We'll find a way through this, together."
Their embrace lingered, the weight of their decision pressing down on them. Draven pulled away slightly, his gaze searching Hermione's eyes. "But what if I'm being selfish, Hermione? What if I'm only thinking about myself and not considering what's best for you?"
Hermione shook her head, her eyes filled with determination. "You're not being selfish, Draven. You're being honest. We both know the risks, and we both have to decide what we're willing to sacrifice for a chance at a better future. But whatever happens, I choose you, Draven. I choose us."
Draven felt a surge of emotion as Hermione's words washed over him. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for what lay ahead. "Okay, Hermione. Let's tell Rookwood that we're not going through with the spell. We'll face whatever comes together, no matter what."
