Testing

Description: For Riley, the end-of-grade testing is simply just a matter of answering questions. For the emotions, it's a whole other story.

"Oh my gosh," Fear began pacing around Headquarters. "It's that time again. Guys, no one talk to me until all questions are answered!"

The other four could understand his panicking. He was never calm when Riley had end-of-grade testing. In fact, they had made a subconscious agreement to avoid Fear at all costs during this time of the year.

"Well, time to bring out the score sheet," Anger chuckled. "Are we still on?"

Joy simply winked in response. "I didn't get everything ready for nothing."

"If it works out, you know," Disgust pointed out.

That was how it normally worked. After a few years of watching Fear's panicking during this time of the year, the two had very quickly started making it a challenge to see if they could get him to say all of the phrases he was normally saying like I could've sworn that wasn't in the material or RILEY. CIRCLE C. If they got to the end of all testing and he said all of them at least once, then Joy and Anger would celebrate by doing something that Disgust and Sadness normally considered stupid.

The two girls had to admit though, the crazy part was when Fear started saying them less frequently the moment  the two idiots had decided that bungee-jumping off of Family Island would be the greatest thing ever; it was almost like he was subconsciously trying to keep them from doing it. Which made sense; no one in Riley's mind had attempted to do such a thing, plus there was the *slight* risk that one or both of them would end up in the memory dump and it would result in a whole mess involving not only explaining how they got down there, but getting them back out so they could get back to Headquarters (a system the mind had started putting in place when they realized that Joy did, in fact, fall down there once and it took Bing Bong's wagon rocket to get her out).

"Oh, we're gonna make it this year," Joy insisted. "Anger and I realized we needed to start using something we haven't before."

"Common sense?" Disgust asked.

"Strategy."

Disgust pursed her lips together, unsure where the positive emotion was going with this.

"Oh yeah, we've been planning this scheme out ever since Riley started reviewing for this week," Anger grinned wickedly. "We know we're relying on pure luck if Fear just goes at it by himself."

"But..." Joy added. "If we somehow... stealthily... convinced him to say it..."

The two emotions high-fived, clearly believing this would actually work.

Disgust and Sadness exchanged a glance.

"So what we are saying is, you two are complete idiots," Disgust finally said.

Fear was already at the console the next morning. Joy and Anger were in the back, getting ready to start their plan.

"Alright, remember what you're doing," Anger said as Joy began hyping herself up. "Luckily knowing you, you'll find a way to get him to say what we want."

She paused for a moment. "How am I the one that'll pull it off better than you?"

Anger simply snickered. "The fact that you don't know makes it even funnier."

He waited a moment. "But still, just go in and guide that conversation."

"You got the checklist ready?"

"Heck yeah. Now go!"

Joy took one last breath to ready herself, then did her best to casually walk up to Fear.
