Marie
After we left the fortress we kept walking into the forest. The once noise of birds and wildlife that must have filled this forest was replaced by the sounds of the flames that I caused a few hours ago. I looked at the fire from the woods softly dying and I felt the harsh wind pick up with a deep cold that took me back. The last time I felt a cold like this was during the last few days of my village before it was destroyed. The howling of the wind before that giant boulder destroyed the walls we had built up for generations. My father would say when our ancestors couldn't hunt the giants they would work on the wall to be there to defend the nonfighters of our tribe. I remember how much that wall made me feel safe when I was just a wee little girl. How I would ask which one he helped add to the wall and he would point at one.
I feel a ghost of a smile take my face as I relive those memories. Then my mind goes back to my mother. She was so strong. I remember the bear she brought back during a hunt and how it was bigger than her. She held up that bear like it was nothing. I still have her ax to this day. But as my mind turns to the past it ends up in the one memory I can't help but be relieved when I return to my old home. The destroyed wall and the giant hands reaching out of it to take my people away. The screams. I can still recall them. Each one was tied to the faces of people who were like family to me.
"Are you ok?" I feel a hand on my arm and my eyes snap to see Seigmund has approached me. When did he get in front of me? His eyes hold a worried look in them and I see I have been lagging behind a bit from the others. I let my mind wander too much. Focus more if you want to be a great warrior. I nod my head and I see a big smile takes Seigmund's face. Oddly, he cares about me already. In one day we came to blows twice but he either forgot it or forgave me already. This man is an odd one. Why am I drawn to him? It feels like he will do something great soon. Was this how my ancestors were when they met great people like the old Conquering King Bin?
Jin
I turn my head to see Seig has lagged behind to talk to that giant of a woman. Now that I have time to think about it, how the hell did Seig get a Goliath to join us? They are very rare to see outside the Wind Mountains. Honestly, this is odd to see someone that tall. I should have studied more when I had the chance. Then again the only time I would have had a chance was if I stole a book about them. Wait, are we just all walking without a destination in mind?
Seig
The crunching of the snow under my feet used to soothe me when I would walk alone in the middle of the forest. Now it's the only noise I'm focusing on to not hear the wind or the burning of the trees. I would relax under them when I read a book. This well of saddle fills my chest as my mind tells itself that those days are gone now. Is my home even standing after all of this? Will I ever see Kandis the bar owner again? Will I see anyone from the village again?
My mind keeps on thinking up these thoughts that only make my sadness grow when Jin's voice snaps me out of it. " Hey, Seig." I turn my head to see Jin who has put a hand on my shoulder. A look of understanding is held in his eyes as he stares at me. He gets it. All these horrible thoughts that are going through my mind must also have gone through his as well. He says "Hey do you want to stop by and get a look at that dragon? I know it may not be the best sight but you can get a close look at a white dragon." Before I could answer I see the one with the sword turn to us and with frustration evident in his tone he says " You are not that stupid to go and look at that corpse. Please let that foolish thought leave your mind and go anywhere else." Jin walks towards him and says with anger "You don't make my decision Cogan. I do and I want to see if Seig wants to take a look at a dragon. Now you may think it's an idiotic idea but guess what! You can fuck off in the other direction if you hate the idea so much. Wherever you are trying to go you don't need us there." Cogan eyes narrow after hearing Jin's tone and match it by saying "Then go and follow a dumb fancy while me and Glenda try to find the map to a dangerous place."
