Such an important night became a nearly forgotten memory. Ever since that incident, things have been different between them. The two hashiras continue to go onto missions together, but the atmosphere is different as if they're complete strangers to one another.

Shinobu kept her smile, and her teasing self in attempt to communicate with her former lover, to no avail. He turns a cold shoulder to each of her advances, the pain still lingers within him and the same does to her.

She hopes for his forgiveness, but she couldn't even bring herself to tell him the truth.

Even when they joined forces once more at Mt. Natagumo to eliminate the spider demon family, her attempts to talk have failed. There is also some resentment inside her, that lead her to almost leaving Giyu with one eye.

She couldn't blame him. She isn't the most honest person there is. Therefore leading to the death of a special person for both of them.

Visiting the wisteria forest, she brings along candles in her hand. Shinobu walks along the dirt path, leading towards where this special someone is buried.

Stopping in her tracks, she is now in front of the small tombstone of this person. Kneeling down, she lights up the candles, placing it in front of the tombstone.

She smiles at the grave, seemingly trying to show that she's OK to whoever is buried. She can handle this.. right?

Putting her hand on the gravestone, she caresses it as if she's pampering her...

Her head drops, as tears stream down her face onto the grass. She apologizes. She apologize.. She continues to apologize...

Shinobu caused her death, she will never forgive herself for that.

She lost her... now she lost her lover...

Giyu drops his sword on the floor without a care. He falls on his bed, his body limp. Looking over to the side, his gaze lands on the framed photo on the bed side table.

He reaches out and gently grabs the photo. Putting it in front of his face to get a better look at it, he stares at it for a while...

His heart shatters as looks at the picture, tears fall from his eyes to his sheets. He doesn't want to, but he can't help but blame Shinobu.

Shinobu's actions caused her death. But, what if it was his fault? What if his inaction was the cause of all this?

He should've stopped Shinobu from doing that to herself... If he had done that, she might be still around
