We walk through the large entrance passing many guard like they have been expecting us. All of us have confused faces except for Carl. We keep walking and end up in the middle of a town-like area. Buildings set up like shops for weapons, houses now barracks for troops. And restaurants turned into dining halls for many to eat at once. I expected a military base but this is a town with a wall. Except for the people here. All have military clothes and only a few aren't carrying guns as they walk from place to place talking, eating and gathering. But when we get to the main building we are met with a sly face, "Welcome, my name is Calvin. You are?".
"I am Quinton, and this is Clay and Carl. What is going on? We were told This place was an abandoned military base." Quinton responds angrily.
"Do you have any money?" Calving asks quietly.
"Why would we have money?" I snap back.
"Clay." Quinton says to calm me, "I got $38 from gambling, but why do you need the money?"
"Entrance fees." Calvin says quickly, Hmm, that's just enough! Entrance is $11 per person and a $3 tax, I'll let you get by not having the extra dollar."
"Ok?" Quinton asks handing him the money. Calvin takes the money and stops smiling.
"Add this paper to the firewood supply," he's says handing it to his assistant who burns it immediately and pours the remains on the ground. "I thought we were getting people who knew shit, not ones they found off the street. Put them in cells until we figure out how to get rid of them, in the meantime I'll call for more men.
We are pushed passed him but clay lifts up his sleeve revealing something on his forearm. I didn't see it but Calvin nodded a pans Carl was let go. The two started talking and walked away, "What the hell is going on?" I scream.
"You are being taken to prison because you don't understand his the economy works, you can't fight with us." A guard tells me.
"We aren't here to fight we need help getting a power supply from the ruins of the city close by." Quinton says.
"Ruins? City? New Harrisburg isn't in ruins, if it was then why would we try to put it under siege?" The guard says.
As we get into our cell we see a few other people, a man without a tongue, a boy about 11, and a woman in a military suit like the guards. I'm not willing to say anything to anyone but Quinton is another story.
"Hey, brunette girl," he says and she looks at him in anger, "what's going on?"
"What?" She says.
"The whole city siege?"
"New Harrisburg? That's the city that was created a few months ago for survivors, it has a growing economy and is almost the size of two large cities combined. Money there doesn't exist only bartering. This base ran off of money, so when they heard about this they were mad, the only barter they could do were weapons. But they weren't allowed to give citizens weapons. They did it anyway though. But one day someone gave me a few guns and said, 'We need clothes go barter with the people in New Harrisburg.' I did and I was caught, the only prison was ever so I'm here. But they won't let me out because the city thinks that I was just doing it not the rest of us."
"So what's the whole siege thing?" I ask.
"Well that's why your both here." She begins, "I over heard some people talking about four men from an unknown source will be on the front line for distraction. Really sucks to be you right now."
