"Clay! Get down!" Marcus calls for me worried, "You might hurt yourself!"
"No I won't!" I stare out into the lake and begin to climb down, I get a tingly feeling in my stomach. I'm shaken suddenly and fall out of the tree. I slam onto the ground and hear a rumble I can't breathe, at all. Everything is going fuzzy when Marcus snaps me out of it. "Come on Clay get up!" He yells franticly, "Clay? Clay!"
I see Mom run outside, "Marcus call an ambulance!" I see blood on my hands, and my on Moms hands too. I cry out for help but can't utter a word. Marcus runs back out with a phone, "Yes, he's 9 years old, his name is Clay Burton, yes we need help!" Marcus hangs up quickly. He stares at me, this is the first time I had seen my brother so worried. I see an ambulance pull up quicky, theres a hospital right nearby our cabin.
We head down the hills and into the street. It begins to rain. We're here for a festival so its no suprise the traffic is congested. The doctors try to treat me while we drive. They explain to me my injuries, a fractured arm, broken fingers, and sprained ankle. We hurry down an intersection and pass many cars, almost hitting a few. On car comes speeding down the freeway, it spins out of control, then smashes into the ambulance. I wince in pain and I loose all vision. Everything is quiet in the back, either that or I can't hear. Then the doctor gets up and yells, "Is everyone alright?" I hear my mother scream, "Marcus! Marcus no!"
"Whats going on? Hello? Whats going on!" I scream as the doctor runs out of the truck, sirens get louder, a pair of paremedics carry me into another ambulance and put me to sleep. It feels like seconds before I'm awake in the hospital. "What? Hello?" I frantically search for a familiar face. I see a nurse standing by me, I try to prop myself up but she pushes me back.
"Don't try to hurt youself again, you took a big fall, and an even bigger hit in the crash." She says.
"Wheres Marucs? Is he alright? How long have I been here?" I reply.
"You have been here for three days, you won't remember them because they were mostly spent on operations. You have had a lot of laughing gas Clay, I'm suprised you even remember your family!" She claims calmy.
"So is Marcus ok?" I ask with a bit of anger.
"I'm sure his fine!" She slowly says with that tone that tells you shes a terrible liar.
I get up and rush into the room with the name 'Marcus' on the door. There I see my brother, broken, beat. My mother crying and doctors covering his face with a blanket. My idol, brother, best friend, has died. I walk out of the room, eyes burning with tears. My mother follows me, "Clay, it's going to be ok." She's crying too, even more than me. "He supported us just as much as I do, but there's nothing me could have done. It wasn't your fault--"
"Yes it was! I fell out of the tree, I didn't listen, I had to be taken to the hospital." I snap back. She looks at me in tears and hugs me. "Nothing else can happen worse than this, we will stick together, I will never leave your side Clay. I don't want to lose you."
My heart shatters, then my already broken bones, followed by my brain. I lose all feeling and drop to the floor, unable to move, I cry and wait for me to wake up from this nightmare. But I never do.
