Jiwon made it a point to visit Jisu every day. They didn't know each other well, but Jiwon knew how important Jisu was to her brother, Jaeheon. And because of that, Jisu was important to her too. Jaeheon rarely left Jisu's side, and visiting her was the only way Jiwon could see her brother. Despite everything, she felt happy for him. He had raised her alone for so long; he deserved to be happy.
Hyunsoo was upstairs with Sangwook, leaving Jiwon with little to do. As she walked toward Jisu's room, she felt a heavy weight on her chest. It had started yesterday and had only worsened. Sometimes it nearly made her breathless, but she pushed through.
When she reached the door, she paused, hearing Jisu's voice from inside.
"Relax. I'm saying thank you," Jisu said.
"Oh, thank you too, for waking up," Jaeheon replied.
"I like you, Jisu," Jaeheon confessed, causing Jiwon to step back.
"Is that God's will too?" Jisu asked jokingly.
"No, it's my own will," Jaeheon said quietly.
Jiwon smiled and walked away, leaving the two alone with a grin on her face.
As Jiwon tried to leave quickly, she ran into Eunhyuk. The grin was still plastered on her face.
"Something happened?" he asked, surprised.
"No, but yes," she said, giggling.
She kissed his cheek, then his forehead, then his cheek again, essentially attacking him with kisses.
"Jiwon!" he said through a smile. "Someone's going to see!"
"Should I stop?" she teased, pausing.
"I didn't say that," he replied, pulling her into a nearby room and pushing her against the wall before kissing her on the lips as if he'd been waiting to do it for a long time.
Jiwon wrapped her arms around his neck, fiddling with the ends of his hair. Eunhyuk's hand was on her waist, the other on her cheek. They kissed, occasionally stopping to grin and catch their breath.
Eventually, they had to stop, knowing Hyunsoo and Sangwook were due to come downstairs any minute, and Jiwon needed to check the lobby.
"I love you," Jiwon said, pecking Eunhyuk's lips.
"And I love you. See you in a bit," Eunhyuk replied.
Jiwon fake saluted and walked off.
Jiwon wandered the main lobby calmly, her jingum in one hand. "Wow, it's so nice and peaceful," she said to herself.
"Wasn't it just Hyunsoo and Sangwook who went upstairs?" one of the female tenants in the lobby asked.
"Yes. Is there something wrong?" Jiwon said, walking toward the elevators.
Unbeknownst to her, the infected security guard, who had been dismissed as a problem of the past, was on his way down. Hyunsoo and Sangwook were helpless in stopping him from reaching the main lobby.
The alarms in the lobby began ringing loudly just as Jiwon asked what was going on. She unsheathed her jingum and pointed it at the elevator, telling the other woman to get a weapon and back away from the elevator.
The weight on her chest grew heavier than ever, causing a tear to roll down her cheek. Why was she crying?
The elevator dinged, and the most disgusting thing she'd ever seen stood before her. The security guard, covered in flies, advanced. She barely had a second to think before realizing she was alone, and the security guard started his lawn trimmer and barreled toward her.
She knew she could handle him; it was golden hour, and if she killed him, it would be over. She raised her jingum as he tried repeatedly to make the revolving blade cut her. She pushed him away but made the mistake of lowering her jingum for a second, exhausted from pushing off a grown man's body.
Before she realized it, he was in front of her. She watched in horror as red blood splattered across her face and the ground. The blades had torn up her torso, and she was losing blood quickly.
"No, this can't be happening," she thought.
She pushed the security guard away, causing him to stumble. She looked down, seeing a chunk of her torso missing. Even without a doctor, she knew this wasn't something she could recover from. She fell to the ground on her hands and knees heaving.
Her brother ran into the room with other tenants, all armed. Seeing his bleeding sister on the ground, he couldn't help but run toward her.
"Stay away from me! Please," she yelled. She couldn't let her brother get involved; she couldn't kill him too.
She got up on her legs, hobbling with her weapon in hand, and reached the security guard, piercing the jingum into his chest. She couldn't look up, knowing that seeing who was watching her die would break her heart.
She couldn't let the security guard go; he would kill them. So she pushed, with all the strength she could muster, to force the monster into the elevator. The guard hit her multiple times with the blade cutter, but she fought back with her jingum as they tumbled to the ground. But at least they were in the elevator.
As she sat, bleeding, holding the security guard in place, she finally looked up.
She wished she hadn't.
Hyunsoo, the sole person who knew everything about her, was there, crying. "I'm sorry, Hyunsoo."
Jaeheon was being held back by some men from the floor, yelling that he needed to save her, tears running down his face. "I'm sorry, Jaeheon. I couldn't be the cause of your life ending too."
And Eunhyuk.
"I'm so sorry," Jiwon mouthed, tears streaming down her face.
She saw him breaking out of the grip of the men holding him back as tears flowed down his face. Her vision began fading to black.
She saw him yell "Jiwon! Please! How could this —"
"I love you, always," Jiwon thought, the pain becoming unbearable.
Jiwon smiled as Yuri finally put her out of her misery, throwing a flaming torch into the elevator and setting everything on fire.
"Thank you," Jiwon thought, getting a final look at everyone before the elevator doors closed.
And just like that, the world went dark.
A pair of soulless black eyes looked back.
"I need your help."
