RORY, HAD SLAMMED THE FRONT DOOR IN A FIT OF ANGER... Leaving her mother, Lorelai, reeling in its wake. "This is about a boy, of course," Lorelai exclaimed, her voice echoing through the hallway. "I can't believe I didn't see it. All this talk about money and bus rides. You got a thing going with a guy and you don't want to leave school." Tori grabbed the landline and ran upstairs into her bedroom. Rory's heart pounded in her chest as she tried to ignore her mother's accusations. "I'm going to bed," she muttered, turning to retreat into her bedroom.
"God, I'm so dense," Lorelai lamented, following her daughter. "That should have been my first thought. After all, you're me."
"I'm not you," Rory snapped, her voice trembling with frustration.
"Really?" Lorelai challenged. "Someone willing to throw important life experiences out the window to be with a guy. It sounds like me to me."
"Whatever," Rory replied dismissively. As the argument reached a fever pitch, Tori, had been listening intently from her bedroom. Stealthily, Tori slipped out of her room and approached the window. With practiced ease, she lowered herself down the tree outside and dialed her father's number.
"Hello," Christopher answered groggily.
"Dad, It's Nina, I know it's late and you're busy... but—" Tori began, but Christopher cut her off.
"Hey, what's up, Nina?" he asked.
'Well, remember when I said, I didn't get into Chilton?
"Yeah?"
"Well... I got it! "Tori responded.
"Wait... I thought there was only one spot, in which they gave to Rory?" Christopher questioned.
"There's was opening spot apparently," Tori explained.
"Or you have a guardian angel, that bribed your way into that spot?" Christopher suggested. Referring to her grandparents Emily and Richard Gilmore.
"Yeah," Tori replied, a smile spreading across her face.
She had an idea who those angels might be "I'm happy for you, Nina. sorry to cut this short, but I'm a middle of something, I'll call you next week. I love you kid"
"I love you dad" she said, hanging up the phone.
Tori then called her grandmother, Emily Gilmore, who had always been a source of support for her. "Emily speaking?' Emily answered
"Hi, grandma, it's Christina" Tori said.
"Oh hi, honey, is everything okay?" Emily inquired.
"Just wanted to thank you" Tori replied.
"I'm not too sure I know what you're talking about" Emily said, a sly smile in her voice.
"Okay! I love you and thank you. Grandpa as well: Tori said, unable to contain her excitement
"You're welcome, Christina" Emily said, her voice filled with affection.
"I'll see you Friday," Tori said.
"See you Friday, sweetheart," Emily replied, hanging up the phone.
As Tori climbed back into her room, her heart felt lighter than it had in days. She was going to Chilton and it was all thanks to her grandparents.
She turns on the radio, Macy Gray's I Try plays. Rory turns on her CD player. Lorelai goes to the living room and turns on the same song.
