Mackenzie hated the following morning. She barely slept, and unlike normally she had no energy. Bella didn't want to let her cousin know she had heard the nightmare, knowing how Mack hated talking about them. Mack didn't trust herself driving, so she rode with Bella. She was grateful they had a school trip, knowing she could sleep more on the bus. The red haired sat on the side of Bella's truck bed, watching Alice and Jasper. Something Alice said yesterday sparked her nightmare's again. Mike was asking Bella out, and all Mack could think about was the nightmare and how after she heard a soft bell like voice speak, the terror left her body.
"Let's go. Guys, come on." Mr. Molina said, as he was gesturing for the students to head onto the buses.
Mack's luck ran out, as she was forced onto the opposite bus as Bella. Her right legged bounced as she kept replaying the nightmare in her head. She knew she needed to reach out to her therapist again if they were starting up again.
"Mack! I'm so happy you're on the bus with us." Alice said as she slide into the seat next to the red haired girl.
Mack tried to hide her flinch, but the three vampires on the bus noticed. "Me too." She stated, before forcing a yawn. "Sorry Al, I'm really tired."
Alice frowned, something was off but she didn't want to push. Edward had told the two about the girl's thoughts. The pixie like vampire didn't want the girl to be scared of them, but she also didn't want her exposed. Since that night, both Alice and Jasper had felt protective over the girl.
Bella had frowned as she noticed her cousin seemed closed off during the trip. This wasn't like Mack, quiet wasn't a setting since she first arrived at Charlie's. Angela, too had noticed, and took it upon herself to help the girl. Linking arms with the red haired girl, Angela and Mack walked down the aisle together.
"That flower over there, Ang." Mack said, pointing at a beautiful dark red flower plant.
"Oh, I read about these, they're called Black Dahlias." Angela said, snapping a picture of the plant.
The rest of the tour, the girls stayed by each others' side, with Mack helping out with photos. Mack was outside, shaking her head with amusement at Eric and his fascination with the worms. Her attention was brought elsewhere when she noticed Edward walking with Bella. She decided to follow after, as it didn't look comfortable.
"Everything okay, Bellie?" Mack asked as she approached. Bella just nodded her head, but Mack knew better. "Kirk! Take my spot on this bus, okay?"
Mack lead Bella to their bus, and sat next to her cousin. She stayed quiet until Bella was ready to talk.
"He's so confusing! Are we going to be friends or not? Are you sure the Cullens are nice?" Bella asked, not sure how they can be with Edward's whiplash.
"Edward's usually not like this, Bellie. Sure, he's no Emmett or Alice, but he interacts more than Rosalie and Jasper. He even politely shut down all the girls asking him out when they first arrived. And let me tell you, I would not have been nice to some of them."
"So it's just me then.." Bella said dejected.
"Nope. Edward would be so lucky to even has you an acquaintance. You, Bella Swan, are an amazing young woman. Don't let some guy who spends too much time on his hair tell you otherwise." Mack said, grinning at her cousin.
"That's the first I've seen you smile today.. what happened Mack?" Bella asked, she had to. Mack listened to her, now it was her turn.
"They're back.." Mack said, her eyes tearing up. "Alice said something yesterday when I froze, and I swear Bellie I heard it before. I'm not crazy."
