It had been a few days since Bella left, and Mack tried her best not to worry over her uncle. He tried to pretend like he was okay, but she knew better. After all, it was Mack who lived her uncle, not Bella.Charlie had to work, which is why Mack was currently seated at the beach with Matt and Sienna. She had just finished filling her best friends in on the Swan residence current drama.
"She told him what?" Sienna asked, unsure of how anyone could be mean to Charlie.
"Dude, your uncle is the chillest chief. How?" Matt asked.
"I don't know, i mean.. I hate that I insulted Renee to her, but I'm team Charlie. But I'm biased so." Mack said, she felt slightly guilty for her last words to her cousin.
"Nah, screw that. Bella intentionally said those words to hurt him, and that's not cool. I knew that they had issues, but that's a whole other level of nasty." Sienna said, trying to ease her friend's guilt.
"I don't get it. Bella and I, we've talked about how much I miss my parents, and would give anything to have them back. I don't understand how she can be so harsh to Charlie. I know my uncle is awkward, but he isn't mean, he listens, and would do anything for her. Hell, I don't even know if my parents and I would get along if they were alive. I was a child, I've been with Charlie for as long as I can remember. In some ways-" Mack stopped before she could continue, her eyes brimming with tears.
Matt and Sienna glanced at each other, before pulling her into a hug. They knew what she meant, in some ways, Charlie is her dad.
Mack was pulled from her thoughts when her phone rang, she frowned when she saw the name. Charlie was calling, but it made no sense, he should be working. Her mind raced with multiple worst case scenarios.
"Uncle C?" Mack asked as she answered the phone, worry laced her voice completely.
"Hey Mack, anyway you can get home asap? Bella's in the hospital." Charlie said, Mack let out a sigh of relief only to be filled with guilt.
"You go to her uncle C, I'll get the house ready." Mack said, scared to face her cousin.
"Are you sure kiddo?" Charlie asked, he was sure Mack would want to go with.
"Yeah, bring her back home." Mack said, before biting her cheek.
As soon as the call ended, Sienna shook her head at her friend and hugged her. Mack was too kind.

Mack stayed up in her room, cleaning the already cleaned room. She was ignoring the noise downstairs. Bella was back, and Mack has avoided her every chance she got. She wanted to apologize, but she couldn't bring herself face her cousin.
The red haired teen threw herself back on the bed and screamed into her pillows. Had she not screamed, she would have heard Bella enter her room.
"Can we talk?" Bella asked, she had shut the door behind her.
"Yeah, sure, invite yourself in." Mack mumbled into the pillow.
"Mack, please. You're my best friend." Bella said, hating that they were fighting.
"And you were mine, but you broke Charlie's heart. Bella you didn't see him after! I did. I saw it every time single time you left too. I've been seeing it, but that night was bad." Mack said, her eyes tearing up at the thought of it
"I know and I feel like shit, Mack. I do. But I had to, please let me explain." Bella said, her eyes tearing up. She couldn't have her cousin mad at her any longer.
"Explain." Mack simply stated, unsure how anything would justify it.
And so Bella did. She filled Mack in on about the nomads, and how one was obsessed with her. How they had to lure him away from Charlie and Mack. How Alice and Jasper were ready to fight their family, if they had gotten Mack involved with the nomads.
"My stupid saviors." Mack said, sniffling with an amused smile. She knew they'd want her safe above all else.
"I know I could have said better, but I was put on the spot and I just kept thinking about him hurting you or Cha-dad. I couldn't have that." Bella said, her voice cracking.
"Stupid Bellie, I'm your older cousin, I should protect you." Mack said, pulling Bella into a hug. It hurt to see her awkward cousin like this, it felt off. "Wait so the break up was fake? Damn it, I had stake waiting for him."
Bella chuckled and shook her head. "Also not how kill them. Jasper said you have to rip them to pieces. And no offense Mack, but you're weaker than me."
Mack's jaw dropped dramatically before she begun a pillow fight with her cousin, screaming for her to take it back. Charlie listened from downstairs, happy his girls were talking again.

Prom. Something Mack was once excited about, yet now it seemed pointless. She stared at the dress, a frown evident on her face. Her hair wasn't done, her makeup wasn't done, and she wasn't making any effort to move.
"You're super behind schedule, Mackenzie." Alice called from her window. Mack shouldn't be surprised to see her, she was already having a mental war about bailing on the prom. "Come along, now. I'll be your fairy godmother."
Mack let out a small chuckle, before allowing Alice to use her like a Barbie doll. She was grateful for the vampire's speed, as she took half the time she normal would. Alice helped Mack with the dress zipper, and grinned at the girl.
Mack stared in shock in the mirror. She wanted to rub her eyes, as if it would wake her from a dream.
"Don't even think about it." Alice said, having a vision of the teen ruining the makeup.
"I look like doll." Mack said, unsure how she felt about it.
"No, you look perfect little one." Alice said, smiling at the girl. In some light, the vampire still saw the scared little girl who clung to her mate all those years ago.
"Thank you, Alice!" Mack said, hugging the vampire.
Alice snapped a few pictures, before shooting the girl downstairs. Sienna had agreed to be Mack's date, Matt would have been in attendance had he not known Edward Cullen would be there too. Bella and Mack met at the top of the stairs and grinned at each other.
Mack walked behind Bella, making sure her cousin got down the stairs okay. She laughed at the awkwardness between her uncle, Edward and Sienna.
"I'll take care of her, Chief Swan." Edward said, causing Mack bit back a laugh.
"Uh-huh. I've heard that before. Mack, no. Sienna, you're in charge." Charlie said.
"Rude!" Mack said, pouting.
"Mack?" Charlie called out to the girl before she walked out the door.
"What's up uncle C?" She asked.
"You look exactly like her. She'd be proud." Charlie said, causing Mack to hug him tightly.
Mack was thankful she and Sienna were driving separate from the couple. The girls blasted Ashlee Simpson, and sang their lungs out while driving to the school. When they pulled up, Jacob was walking away from Edward and Bella.
"Do I wanna know?" Mack asked.
"Rumor is, Billy paid Jake to come convince Bella to break it off with Edward." Sienna said, having heard it from Matt.
"Surprised they didn't try that with you." Mack said.
"Oh they did, but I wanted to see a pale face prom." Sienna said with a laugh.
The two girls danced the night away, completely forgetting the world around them. For that night, they were normal. Two best friends just having fun. Unaware of how soon everything could change.
