Summer went fairly quickly for Mackenzie. She had hosted a few summer tutoring sessions, knowing that some kids forget things during the summer. She always did her best to hide her disappointment when Paul never showed up again. A part of the teen always held hope at the beginning of each session.Mack tried to pry info from Jared, but the male remained quiet when Paul was brought up. She even tried asking the other boys, but they insisted on Mack dropping it. They, being Jacob, Embry, and Matt, all agreed Mackenzie was better off not wasting her energy on Paul. Reluctantly, she did however that never stopped Paul from living in the back of her mind, rent free.
She would try not to have too much hope during the upcoming year. From what the others say, Paul changed completely and followed Sam around. Just like Jared. She didn't see how it was a bad thing. Jared was still Jared, he even finally asked out Kim. And if he makes her friend happy, it's definitely not a bad thing.
What was odd, was Matt. Mack had wondered when the male started going to the gym or even working out besides his thumbs on his video games. She never brought it up, as she didn't want to seem offensive to her best friend. Sienna had noticed it too, the two would often silently communicate.
It was the day before her birthday, and Mack was seated in her car outside the Cullen house. It was decided, by Alice, that Mackenzie would spend her birthday with the Cullens today as the day off she would be with Sienna and Matt. She was about to turn off her car when her phone rang. Sienna's name flashed on the screen.
"Si?" Mack answered, her tone portrayed the worry she was feeling. Sienna hated phone calls.
"I didn't want to worry you, but you'd notice tomorrow anyways. Um.." Sienna paused, not sure how to tell Mack. "Matt's gone kinda MIA."
"What do you mean he's gone MIA?" Mack asked, not wanting to jump to conclusions as Matt often spent a lot of time gaming.
"It's been about almost two weeks now, he's not answering me. I tried Kim and Mrs. Powell, but they both said he has mono." Sienna said, scoffing.
"Mono? The kissing disease? Matt doesn't kiss anyone." Mack said, confused as Matt only hung around three girls, his twin, Sienna and Mack.
"Exactly! And he was really weird the last we spoke. Like all angry and not like himself." Sienna said, her worry slipping through.
Mack noted her friend's worry, and smiled softly. Sienna and Matt were best friends before Mack came into the picture, but even then Sienna barely showed the male affection. They constantly bickered like a married couple, and Mack determined the two were in love and refused to say anything.
"I'm on my way. No way in hell we're celebrating my birthday without our third." Mack said, starting up the car and leaving. She'd have to apologize to Alice later.

The drive to the rez didn't take long, considering Mack went about the speed limit a few times. Sienna was sitting out on her porch when Mack pulled up. She could tell Sienna wasn't sleeping even from the distance she's at. Sienna rushed to the car and got in, she didn't want to waste any time.
"His house first?" Mack asked, pulling out of Sienna's driveway.
"Yeah, but be warned they're gonna lie for him." Sienna said, anger filling her tone. She wished they would be honest.
Mack headed in the direction of Matt's house. She hoped he was home, and would be their Matt. She wasn't a fan of what Sienna had described, and she definitely didn't want her friend to be sick.
When she arrived at Matt's, Sienna stayed in the car unsure if she could keep her temper in check. Mack jogged up the steps that led to Matt's front door, and knocked. To her disappointment, Kim answered.
