"Wake up, Ash! We're going to be late for the trip!"

Naomi's text jolted me out of bed. I groaned, rubbing my eyes and squinting at the bright screen of my phone. The clock read 6:30 AM. Plenty of time to get ready, but Naomi's urgency meant I had to hurry. Today was the long-awaited school trip to the zoo, and I had been looking forward to it for weeks. More specifically, I was looking forward to spending the day with Naomi.

After a quick shower, I threw on a casual outfit: a blue hoodie, dark jeans, and my trusty sneakers. Grabbing my backpack and stuffing it with essentials - water bottle, snacks, and my camera - I was ready to go. I made my bed haphazardly and headed downstairs to grab a quick breakfast. My mom had left a note on the counter wishing me a fun trip and reminding me to take lots of pictures.

By the time I reached Naomi's house, it was 7:15 AM. I knocked twice, and her father opened the door, greeting me with his usual warm smile.

"Good morning, Asher! Naomi will be down in a minute. She's just finishing up," he said, ushering me inside.

I nodded and stepped into the cozy living room, filled with the familiar scent of fresh coffee and the sound of a morning news broadcast. Naomi's dad and I chatted about the latest sports updates while I waited. After a few minutes, Naomi appeared at the top of the stairs, looking radiant in a light blue sundress and white sneakers. Her hair was tied in a loose ponytail, and she had a small backpack slung over her shoulder.

"Good morning, Ash!" she called out, her voice cheerful. She descended the stairs quickly and gave her dad a quick hug. "Ready to go?"

"Absolutely," I replied, trying to keep my cool. She looked effortlessly beautiful, and my heart skipped a beat.

Her dad waved us off with a smile as we headed out the door. We made our way to the school, walking side by side in the cool morning air. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a golden glow over the quiet streets.

"So, what are you most excited to see at the zoo?" Naomi asked, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

"Definitely the big cats," I replied. "I heard they have a new exhibit with lions and tigers. What about you?"

"The giraffes," she said without hesitation. "They're so graceful and tall. I can't wait to see them up close."

We arrived at the school just as the buses were being loaded. Our classmates were buzzing with excitement, and the teachers were doing their best to keep everyone organized. We spotted our friend group near the front of the line and joined them.

"Hey, Ash! Naomi!" called out Liam, one of my closest friends. "Ready for an epic day?"

"You bet!" I replied, giving him a high-five. Naomi and I found seats together near the back of the bus, settling in for the ride.

As the bus rumbled to life and pulled away from the school, I couldn't help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. Today was the day I had decided to tell Naomi how I felt. We had been friends for years, but recently, my feelings had grown into something more. I had planned to confess during the trip, but the thought made my stomach churn with anxiety.

We chatted and laughed with our friends during the ride, sharing stories and joking about what we might see at the zoo. Naomi was her usual bubbly self, making everyone around her smile. I couldn't help but steal glances at her, wondering if she had any idea how much she meant to me.

After about an hour, we arrived at the zoo. The entrance was crowded with students from various schools, all excited for the day's adventure. Our teachers herded us into groups, handing out maps and setting rules for the day.
