JOHNNY'S POV:
There I was, sitting at my lunch table with Bobby and Jimmy. We sat in awkward silence until Bobby spoke.
"So how's that project going with Larusso?" He started. I wished I wasn't there at the table. It only reminded me about the fact that I nearly kissed him that day. It's been about 2 days since then, we've been too busy to work on it.
Daniel probably hates me.
"It wasn't... terrible." I said, honestly. "We're almost done."
Bobby nodded and it was quiet again. Me, Bobby, and Jimmy have drifted apart since they both got girlfriends. I've been single since I broke up with Ali a year ago.
Now, I had my eyes unfortunately set on a boy. And even if I did get with him, it would be impossible to show him off.
...
Our intensive training began. the homecoming game was next week! We have all waited for this moment. The entire high school would be cheering us on as we beat our rival team.
"You ready?" Daniel asked me, holding his helmet to his side. To this day I am shocked that it even fits on his head.
"I think so." I lied, being a quarterback is hard.
"I know it's a lot of pressure on you, being a quarterback and all that, but it's going to be fine. Just throw that shit to me and i'll get us a touchdown." Daniel said, his hand looped around mine as he dragged me to the coach. There was a huddle around him. Daniel and I pushed our wya through.
"There's the star!" Coach yelled, pointing to me. "Let's work on those passes, shall we?" I switched my jersey to a red one, instead of our normal purple, to indicate that I was the quarterback .
Half of our team played as our rival . Daniel stayed with me. My trust was building up in him.
So, instead of throwing the ball to Jimmy, another WR, I threw it to Daniel. Daniel sped past all of the linebackers and successfully ran a touchdown.
I had to admit, being scrawny must've benefited him in the long run.
When Daniel ran back I gave him a high five, electricity filling my hand.
"You're not so bad." I told him, my hand lingering on his shoulder.
"You're not so bad yourself, Lawrence." Daniel said, his voice raspy from breathing threw his mouth.
My heart leaped. He again leaned into my body, naturally. I tapped his helmet, that's how we show our love on the field.
"Nice completion from Lawrence!" Coach shouted. We quickly got back into position.
Over and over, touchdowns were completed by Daniel and Jimmy. I wasn't sacked once by the other half of the team.
This homecoming game was going to be easy.
DANIEL'S POV
There I was, again, at Johnnys house. I had bought the poster board and was decorating it. Johnny told me I had to do the board so Ms. Malone could actually read the writing.
I used the sharpies from Mrs. Lawrence and got to work. Writing the word "PHYSICS" In bold, block letters. I felt Johnny loom over me. His warm breath tickled the hair on my neck.
"Damn, that looks good." He said to me, pointing at the picture of the example. We decided to do ours on examples in every day life, one being a seatbelt.
"Not my best work." I said, chuckling, I turned my head to look at him. Our noses almost touching. If I closed the gap between us, my lips would be on his.
Johnny gulped and opened his mouth. "Listen. I wanted to apologize about a few days ago—" He started.
"It's alright. You didn't weird me out." I said. I knew he was talking about when we got interrupted by his mom that fateful day. If I was being honest, I wouldn't have minded kissing him. But I couldn't tell him that.
I placed my hand on his, reassuringly.
"Okay cool." He said. The tension between us grew.
"I wouldn't mind kissing you." I whispered, hoping he didn't hear me. I quickly got back to working on the board.
