There we were, pitch black in the Walter home, just me and Cole.
"You ever fixed a fuse before?" I asked hopefully
"Can't say i have, but i know my way around a car so how bad can a house be?" He said playfully, even though i couldn't really see i just knew he had a big smirk on his face.
"Let's see about that" I said as i got up, he followed suit. I headed down into the basement, scared as anything.
"What was that?" I asked as i heard a scuffle in the corner of the basement. I paused and felt Coles chest hit my back as he wasn't expecting me to stop.
"What was what?" He asked amused
"That sound, do you have rats?" I asked, hoping thats all it was
"I don't think so, haven't been down here in years, i don't think anyone has. Could be someone living down here for all we know" He said, clearly trying to get a rise out of me. I hit his chest with my hand and scolded him.
"Don't do that. It's not funny" I said, seriously shitting myself.
"It's fine i'm right here, nothing's going to happen to you. The sooner we get in there the sooner we can turn the lights on." He said, putting his hands on my shoulders and guiding me forward.
"Why do i have to go first" I said timidly, slowly pushing my feet to move forwards.
"So they get you first" He laughed
"Seriously Cole! Now you're going in front" I said, pushing him in front of me. He was still laughing as he went first. I held on to his shirt behind him and went forward as he did.
"Okay we're here. Now i just need to see where the generator is and turn it on." He said. I didn't respond as i looked around cautiously for anything that could creep up on us.
"You seriously need to calm down. Nothing's down here." He said, looking down at me
"You don't know that" I said, standing as close to him as possible, as if the closer i was the safer i was.
"Even if there was i'd protect you, you know that" He said as he turned back to the fuse box. I couldn't help but blush a bit.
"Thanks, but you can't protect me from a ghost" I said, trying to diffuse the tension. I heard him laugh
"Now you're being ridiculous" He said. After a few minutes of him trying to turn the generator on, the lights came back on. I smiled widely.
"There we go" He smiled and i ran as fast as i could up the stairs to get out of that creepy basement.
"You are such a pussy" Cole laughed as he came out of the basement
"I don't care i am never going in there again" I said as i headed into the living room.
"Well at least the lights are on now so you can stop being scared-" Just as Cole spoke, the lights went out again
"Okay that's got to be a ghost" I said wide eyed
"Or just the raging storm outside. There's no point turning the generator back on. We'll just have to light a fire and a few candles" He said as he shovelled a couple logs into the fire place and chucked a match in there.
We sat down by the fire and i checked my phone
Carson: Hey how you holding up in the storm
Me: Not bad, our lights are out though, yours?"
Carson: Yep gone. Are you alone?
Me: I'm with Cole, we got grounded after the lake day
