Prologue
~~Megan Williams made it her mission to make sure Aurora knew she hated her. As a child, the young girl never knew why.
All she knew was that she was a burden to the older woman and that Charles Williams did nothing to make her feel better. In fact, her father would sometimes make it worse.
Her family was sophisticated and polished at all times. Her father was very keen on the idea that they all looked their best. They were popular in town and known to be the richest but none of that mattered to the poor little girl.
The poor little girl who hid up in her room when guests were over. Or even the poor little girl that hid behind her older brother's legs when her parents were arguing.
The poor little girl who never had a real relationship with her father or step-mother.
Her step-mother would laugh at her when she struggled to read. She would call her stupid and tell her that she was a baby for never being able to catch up with the other kids in school. The older woman would always scold her for being restless and never being able to pay attention.
And the young girl would try. She would try so hard to be better. She would continue to work harder no matter what.
Because no matter how much the woman hated her, she still wanted her validation. No matter how much her father continued to agree with her step-mother, she continued to just want to hear four simple words.
"I'm proud of you."
______________But eventually, Aurora gave up.
She decided that none of this was worth it. Because when her 'parents' would call her a freak or say that she ruined their lives, she would normally take it. Finally, she had enough.
She decided to run away. She left the ginormous house that she knew she could never call home. With a small backpack full of candy, chips, two water bottles and her favorite pink teddy bear, she made her way.
Obviously because she was young, she got lost. She was lost in the streets of Los Angeles when she saw a pink beam. Nobody else seemed to notice it but her.
Something tugged at her causing her to eventually follow it. When she got to the end of the beam, she saw a huge bag filled with food, water, and many supplies she had no idea how to use.
Something told her to take the bag, so she did. She shoved her teddy bear in it before she decided to rest for a second.
Eventually Aurora noticed another beam of pink light. The same tug was pulling on chest, the girl followed it but not before making sure she had everything she needed.
She followed the beam of light for days, only resting every once and awhile. She was always an athletic kid, though her step-mother never agreed with her doing sports. She was thankful in those moments that she did do them because it allowed her to be able to push on.
_______________When she finally stopped again, she noticed a weird sound coming from behind her. Aurora turned around, the girl couldn't believe her eyes. It was ginormous. It had sharp yellow teeth and wings that continued to flap aggressively. And she was terrified.
But something told her not to run away. It was a strange feeling. It told her to grab one of the rings out of her backpack and to stand firm.
