Y/n walked ahead of the two as they left Kamski's house. She walked in front of them, almost as if rushing to get out of there.
Hank spoke to Connor as he looked at Y/n in front of them. "Why didn't you shoot?" He asked.
Connor stopped walking, Y/n had heard Hanks question and she stopped walking as well. She turned around and looked back at them, a few meters away.
Connor spoke. "I just looked into her eyes and I couldn't. That's all." He said.
Y/n didn't know how to describe the feeling she felt when he said that.
Hank spoke, "You're always saying you would do anything to accomplish your mission. That was our chance to learn something, and you let it go." Hank said.
Connor raised his voice and turned to Hank as he replied. "Yeah, I know what I should've done! I told you I couldn't. I'm sorry, okay?"
Hank looked past Connor, seeing Y/n standing there, looking slightly shaken up. "Maybe you did the right thing." He said and walked past Connor and Y/n to the car.
The two stood alone for a few seconds. Y/n quietly turned to walk away as well, ready to leave. But Connor grabbed her wrist. She looked back at him and the two held eye contact.
Y/n was deviant. Connor knew. She knew that he knew. But he didn't say anything, not at first.
"Would you have wanted me to shoot?" Connor asked. Y/n's mouth dropped slightly. "No." She replied quietly.
"Why?" He asked. Her lip quivered as she spoke. "I don't want to die, Connor..." she looked at his eyes. "Please don't tell them..." she whispered.
Connor released her wrist. "That you're deviant?" He asked. She looked at him, quietly. He looked at her. "I won't." He said.
Y/n was confused but thankful. Her gaze was soft and sad. She didn't know if he was deviant or not. What was going on inside his head? He'd gained free will but he hadn't accepted it yet.
"When did it happen?" Connor asked her. Y/n shamefully looked down. "When we chased that deviant on the rooftop..." she said. Connor nodded, understanding. "So he didn't get away." He suggested. Y/n frowned. "I let him go... he... he told me what happened to him. It... it was so... sad. I- I didn't know what to do-" she trailed off, it took a few seconds until she spoke again.
"I'm scared Connor..."
"I know." He replied. "But, promise me you won't tell anyone that you're deviant. You need to hide it as best as you can. Like you've done until now."
Y/n nodded. "Okay. Yes. I swear. I'll hide it. I won't be any trouble."
"Then I promise I won't let anything happen to you." Connor said. But in reality...
He had no idea why he'd just said that.

Connor opened his eyes to face the garden. It was covered in snow, and still snowing. He started walking to talk to Amanda. He didn't know what he'd say to her, or what she knew. He just knew he couldn't let suspicion rise against Y/n. He had to hide her deviancy.
Connor walked over the bridge, not seeing Amanda in her usual spot. He turned and saw her standing on the frozen water. She faced him. He took careful steps onto the ice.
"After what happened today, the country is on the verge of a civil war. The machines are rising up against their masters. Humans have no choice but to destroy them." Amanda told him.
Connor's mind immediately went back to Y/n. She swore to be no trouble for the humans, she could still do her job like always. She'd been perfectly capable of living among humans- He blinked away his thoughts. Deviancy was bad. It was a virus, he told himself.
