Chapter XXI: Empty heart

Taehyung walks out of the bath with a towel around his waist. He stands in front of the mirror even though he can't see his own reflection. That's okay. He was never a huge fan of the way he looked. Especially when he was still a human. Although he has some curiosity as to how well he looks right now. After getting dressed, he hears Jungkook enter the room.

- You don't even knock anymore?

- Hi babe! Sorry, I ran out of blood. You have any more?

- You sound like an addict

- Hey, you're the one that drank most of it when I made those drinks the other night!

- Fine, fine, I'll give you more. But you'll have to settle with B+!

Tae looks through his bags while Jungkook waits pouting on the bed. The younger was used to having big meals and eating more than one plate each time. He should ask if there's anything more consistent he could try as dinner. While he waits, Tae's cellphone makes a sound next to him. He looks at it with no second intentions, it's more of a reflex than anything. But the text makes his heart skip a beat.

Tae pulls out the bottles of blood feeling an uncomfortable pressure on his chest. He wants to cry again? What is it? As soon as his eyes meet Kook's he gets an idea.

Before marking him, Jungkook already wanted to live his life next to him. Well, he still wants that. He knows Tae has a clear boundary with him since that night but...what about before? Did he ever consider giving him a real chance? A million depressing thoughts take over his head and heart making Tae feel a wave of sadness.

Tae feels anger and it's not his own. He stares at the way Jungkook is clenching his fists with frustration while the tears are threatening to fall. He hates seeing this part of Tae. So cold, so distant, so hurtful.

The vampire allows that same anger to affect him before he talks back. What does Kook know about heartless people?
