001. WIN SOME, LOSE SOME
"So, should I plan to be upsey within the next few days? Buy some tissues so I can cry my eyes out because my partner is leaving me?"
Kira Brennan shook her head with a smile, tapping the pads of her fingers against the steering wheel as she drove.
"Alyssa, I just took the exam," Kira said slowly. "I don't know if I made detective or not yet. I probably won't for a little bit, so save the pity party for now," she laughed. "And I'm still your roommate. You better not kick me out just because I make detective. If I make detective."
"Please, I would never," Alyssa grinned. "I might give you the silent treatment for ditching me, but I would never kick you out."
Kira snorted at the comment and nodded as a call came in through the radio, requesting police backup to an apartment building.
Alyssa picked up their radio and said, "7-Adam-14 responding."
Kira clicked on their sirens and turned the car around, driving to their destination.
Kira parked the car, and her and Alyssa got out of the car.
"Oh, look who it is," Alyssa pointed to the firetruck on scene.
"Hmm?" Kira's eyes followed her finger, groaning when she saw the 118's engine. "Whatever, let's just get going. Don't need any flushed babies on our watch."
Alyssa snickered and ran after Kira, running up the stairs of the building.
"LAPD!" Kira bellowed out. "Do not flush your toilets!"
The pair had made it up quite a few levels, repeating their order until they ran into their boss, Athena Grant.
"Officers, how you doing today?"
"We're good," Alyssa nodded. "Yourself?"
"Good, good," Athena nodded. She turned to Kira, "I heard you took the detective's exam early this morning, Brennan. How did that go?"
"I feel alright about it; hoping for the best," Kira smiled. "Do you need anything else from us?"
"Yes," Athena nodded, her attention reverting to why she approached. "Start looking for a young woman, probably a teenager, obviously just gave birth. She's gonna need care."
"We're on it, Sarge," Alyssa nodded. She watched as Athena walked away and turned to her partner. "So, I take left and you take right?"
Kira shrugged and nodded, the two of them separating.
Knocking on the first door, she called out, "LAPD!" she waited a few moments before and older woman answered, obviously annoyed with all the commotion going on in the hallways. "Hi, do you have a girl in here who's just given birth?"
"No."
"And have you seen one?"
"Nope."
"Thanks, have a great day," Kira sighed as the door slammed into her face. "And onto the next."
Alyssa had found the mother with the help of Athena, and her and Kira were escorting her father, who was carrying her out to the ambulance, which was luckily still on scene.
"Hang on!" Kira called after them. "We've got one more for you!"
The team of firefighters turned to the two officers as they neared the ambulance.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, no!" Evan Buckley, one of the firefighters immediately said. "Screw her!"
"Excuse me?" Kira narrowed her eyes at the boy. "She's bleeding out, Buckley. She needs care too."
