"Everything's uglier up close."
-Paper towns (Margo)The minute Halson Bright got out of her mom's SUV I knew my reign as Queen bee was in jeopardy. First of all, the girl was drop dead gorgeous. I hate to admit it, but she was prettier than me. Her light brown hair hung down her back in waves. Even from where I was standing, fifty feet away I could tell her eyes were a bright golden color.
It wasn't just that she was pretty that caught my eye though. She had a sort of confident, effortless air about her. She was dressed simply in a maroon v-neck and a pair of jeans. Nothing eye catching or attention begging. Just...perfect.
I looked down at my pale blue dress. I suddenly felt over dressed and out I of place. But, I quickly recovered after looking towards one of my "minions" Abigail. She wore a puffy pink dress that made her look like a flamingo going to prom.
All eyes follow Halston as she walked towards the doors, a small smirk on her face. I turned my nose up in disgust. If I didn't turn her into a second (but less fabulous) version of me she might steal the spotlight from me before this week was over . That couldn't happen. I'm the only leading lady here sweetheart.
So, that was my plan.Turn her into one of my minions. The over caked makeup and ridiculously preppy close would ruin her aura. Then I could regain my power and go on with a picture perfect eighth grade year.
I turned towards Diana, who's dress was almost identical to my own. I laughed inside. She would be lost without me.
"Go tell that new girl to sit with us today." I pointed at Halston, who's name I hadn't known at the time. I crossed my fingers. Maybe she would turn out to be a weirdo stalker. I smoothed my dress. No threat at all.
I watched Little Diana run up to the girl and talk to her, pointing towards me. I struck my best "too cool for school" stance and studied my manicure.
Diana scurried back.
"She said okay." Diana paused. "She also asked why she needed an invitation."
"Oh did she now." I shot a glare at the new girl. Sooner or later she'd figure out her place.
