"You are worth more than rubies."
-Proverbs 3:15That day at lunch she did sit at my table. As soon as she sat down across from me I studied her. Still smirking.
"Hi." She looked around at my minions. We must've looked pretty intimidating, with our narrowed eyes and matching outfits. Squad on point. We'd rehearsed it right before she'd shown up.
"Hello." I said, purposely putting ice into my voice. I stirred my school mashed potatoes. Peasant food.
"So, you're new."
"Yep." She took a bite of the mashed nastiness. Ewe.
"I moved here from Maine."
I nodded and half yawned, sending her a message that I wasn't interested.
She seemed to get it and just smirked wider.
"This is my first time in a public school."
"Really?" I said channeling my inner Regina George.
"Really!" She seemed to be mocking me now. I narrowed my eyes at her. That little brat.
"But yeah," she continued eating her lunch, "My parents are missionary's, so I've lived like all over the world."
"That's sooo cool." Piped up Diana, who was quickly shut down by a glare from me.
"It was pretty cool." She continued.
"Umm, what's even your name?" Asked another minion, Renae.
"Halston." She said pushing back her hair.
I not-so-secretly hid a laugh behind my hand.
"Halston?"
"Yeah, do you have a problem with it?"Ohhh, now someone was getting sassy.
"No." I made it very obvious that I was lying. What can I say, killing people with kindness never works.
Then I noticed a mark behind her ear.
I leaned a crossed the table and turned her head. A small olive green cross was tattooed in her skin.
"You have a tattoo?" I asked genuinely shocked.
"Yeah." She shrugged and turned pulling up more of her hair, showing another tattoo, this one of a Mandela, at the nape of her neck. " my mom let me get them in Brazil."
She seemed to be enjoying my shocked look so I wiped it off my face watching my minions do the same.
"That's.....interesting." I then whispered "trashy" into Abigail's ear, staring at Halston the whole time. Abigail then snorted and nodded. Actually, I thought the tattoos were insanely cool. But I couldn't let her know that. She'd obviously thought it would impress me.
Halston scowled. I pushed my shoulders back and gave a smirk right back to her.
"Well," she stood up and slammed her tray, " it's been lovely sitting with you girls but I think I'm gonna find another group." She walked away and I swore I heard her snort in disgust.
Renae started to call after her but I shushed her.
"Let that little freak go." I said loudly. "She's obviously insane."
Abigail gasped. "Ally!, that little freak is like staring you down!" Abigail said it like it was a crime.
I laughed. "She's so desperate." I didn't even know what I meant by that, but I knew my minions would back me up.
"Totally." Said one who's name I'd forgotten.
I could feel people watching me as I glared at Halston. I knew we'd be enemies. This meant war. And I always win.
