i kicked off my cleats, feeling the exhaustion settle in after another grueling training session. my muscles ached, and the only thing on my mind was a hot shower and curling up in bed. but just as i was about to grab my stuff and head home, mapi, my teammate and best friend, sauntered over with that mischievous glint in her eyes.

"hey," she began, casually leaning against the lockers. "so, what do you say about hitting up the club tonight?"

i almost laughed. "mapi, seriously? i'm dead. i can't feel my legs, and all i want is to sleep for like a year."

she rolled her eyes. "hh, come on, ale. we just crushed that training session, and you deserve to unwind a little. plus, it's friday night! we're young, and we should be out there, not wasting away in bed."

"i don't know," i hesitated. the thought of dancing in a crowded, loud club wasn't exactly appealing at the moment. "i'm really tired, mapi"

"yeah, but you'll regret it if you don't come," she said, her voice dripping with that persuasive charm she always used when she really wanted something. "one night, ale, just one night to let loose. you know we always have the best time when we go out."

i sighed, knowing deep down she was right. we did have a blast every time we went out, and she was practically a force of nature when it came to having fun. but still, i was hesitant.

she must've sensed my reluctance because she changed tactics. "alright, picture this: we're at our favorite club, the music's pumping, and we're just letting go of all the stress from this week. you, me, a couple of our other teammates—dancing, laughing, just living in the moment. it'll be like the good old days before we got so wrapped up in training."

that image she painted did sound pretty tempting. i could almost feel the beat of the music, the adrenaline, the freedom of just being in the moment. and it wasn't like i had to wake up early tomorrow—coach had given us the weekend off.

"but what about the fact that i look like i just crawled out of a gym bag?" i asked, trying to find any excuse to stick to my original plan

mapi laughed. "girl, please! you always look amazing, even after sweating buckets on the field. but if it makes you feel better, we'll take our time getting ready. i'll even let you borrow that new dress i got—it'll look killer on you"

i pretended to consider it for another moment, but she knew she had already won. mapi knew exactly how to get me on board, and honestly, i wasn't mad about it.

"alright, alright," i finally relented. "but you better have some energy drinks on hand because i'm gonna need it to keep up with you tonight."

her face lit up with triumph. "yes! You won't regret it, ale, it's going to be epic, i promise."

as i grabbed my bag and followed her out of the locker room, i felt a mix of anticipation and excitement bubbling up. maybe she was right—maybe tonight was exactly what i needed.

after all, how often do we really get to let loose these days?

as the three of us pile out of the cab at the bar we all wander in together. as we make our way inside we search the loud and busy room which is filled with sweaty bodies for our group of teammates. as ingrid see's them she waves over to them and leads us to them.

we make our way slowly over to the table, pushing our way through the warm sticky bodies. as we reach the table we are each greeted with warm smiles and loving hugs. the group orders a round of drinks which i decide to sit out of, due to the fact that i don't drink during the season. and even if i do drink, it isn't a lot, and it is normally after a big win for the team.

"come on ale, just have a drink" mapi says, in attempt to try and get me to drink something

"you know i don't drink during season, mapi" i say, pushing her pleads away

"just one alexia, it's not going to affect you." claudia says, passing me a drink. i'm not sure what this drink is, but it's dark blue on the bottom and light blue on the top. it probably has vodka in it, and some strange fizzy drink.

"fine, just leave me alone after this" i say, taking the drink and having a small sip. as i swallow the mysterious drink, i make a face. the drink is really strong, and i absolutely hate it. i take another sip, the sourness of the drink settling in. whatever is in this drink, is really strong.

an hour later, a few drinks finished too, patri and mapi drag me up to the dance floor. i'm not one for dancing, but by the time the alcohol has set into my body system, i let loose and give up the fight of battling off the girls.

we get up to the dance floor, when all of the sticky and sweaty bodies are all mixed together. patri grabs my hands, swinging them to the beat to the rapid music. before i know it, she lets go of my hands and moves back to claudias.
