"So do I just look at you or..? Oh, the camera, right. Got it, ok." A young man is sitting in the same floral armchair where the vampire was previously sat. This one is looking very different though. Compared to Seonghwa with his neatly combed blond strands and an outfit taken straight out of a Charles Dickens book, this new guy looks rather.. normal. Shaggy jet black hair, ears adorned with piercings and a loose fitting black t-shirt. All in all, just an average guy. His brown eyes dart around the room observing the camera crew with a parted mouth, sweaty palms rubbing the denim fabric covering his thighs.
"Sorry I'm a little nervous. I've never been in a documentary before so." A little laugh escapes him before swallowing audibly, making his Adam's apple bop up an down.
"Can you introduce yourself to the camera, please. Tell us a little about yourself."
"Uh, where do I even start," With knitted eyebrows, he looks down at his feet while running a ring clad hand through his dark locks. "My name is Kim Hongjoong, I'm 25 years old and I work as a Familiar." He ends off with a closed mouthed smile.
"Most people probably don't know what a 'Familiar' is. Please explain it to the viewers." The Interviewer requests.
"Ah, yeah of course. Sometimes I forget normal people don't know this stuff." He shifts a little in his seat, finally finding the right position with one leg over the other.
"A familiar is basically a vampire's companion. Think of it like a, hmm," he pauses in thought, thinking of the right analogy, "A pet! We do our masters biddings, whatever they wish for. We are their humble servants. After we make this deal with the vampire and then our life forces are linked together, making us master and slave." Hongjoong nods his head up and down, quite satisfied with his explanation. The room is silent for a long moment, crew members giving each other wondering looks."And why exactly did you make this deal? I mean, what are you getting out of it?" The voice behind the camera asks, thus breaking the weird quietness.
"These kinds of contracts have been made for centuries, you know. We promise to serve one master only, and in return that master will turn us in to a vampires as well. All we have to do is be their slaves for a couple of years!"
"How many years?"
"Uhm, well that depends. Some Familiars serve for ten years, others for 30, 40, 50 years. Sometimes Familiars even end up dying before they get turned." He looks down at his slender fingers playing with a loose thread on his shirt. Explaining this never really sounds appealing. Not even to Hongjoong himself. "It's up to the Master when they want to do it." He says while shrugging his shoulders.
"How long have you been serving.. uhm, who are you serving again?" The voice questions.
"Oh my Master is Seonghwa, yeah. He's the one I signed my contract with, but somehow I ended up just kind of being everyone's servant in this house. I've been here around two and a half years now. It feels more like ten if I'm being honest though." He nods his head again while making eye contact with the camera, revealing puffy, dark under eyes."Can you describe what you do as a Familiar in this house?"
"Sure, sure. Yeah I'm actually the one in charge of, like, keeping this house up and running. I make clean, I make sure to put newspapers over the windows so the sunlight wont enter. I also lure humans in to the house and dispose of their bodies again." He all but whisper the last sentence while rubbing his nape. "I do most of my duties in the day time while the vampires are sleeping, and at night I do whatever Master Seonghwa asks of me."
"Seonghwa told us that he is the one in charge of keeping the house."
"Yeah, no. That would be me, I don't think Master has ever touched a broom in his life. I guess, technically, you could say it's him since he's the one ordering me around." He says with crossed arms and knitted eyebrows."I'm also the-" But before he can finish his sentence, a loud "HONGJOONG!" is heard from the living room. Hongjoong slowly closes his eyes, lets his shoulders deflate and a sigh out of his nostrils once he hears his masters piercing voice call for him.
"Where is Hongjoong? I need him to light the candles! Hongjoong!" His master bellows from the other room.
"Work calls. Literally."Second person to be introduced in this vampire book, and it's not even a vampire? What a plot twist. Hope you had fun reading cuz I had so much fun writing this.
See you next chapter suckers!
