Why won't the pain stop?

Nyx is now 16. She got her driver's license and June's parents let her drive their car. She's actually a really good driver. She loves to listen to music while she drives.

Nyx still hasn't told June about everything going on but June can tell things aren't okay with Nyx. By now Nyx is regularly self-harming and has tried to commit at least a couple of times. Sometimes she calls June before she does it and June stops her and sometimes the ropes, the pills, they just don't work.

Despite everything Nyx has outstanding grades as school work gives her something to distract herself with. And because her parents wouldn't settle for anything less than perfection. Though, even Nyx knows perfection isn't anywhere near good enough for them.

Nyx is now kind of popular at school because of her emo look. She still has her long brown hair but she's planning on chopping it all off and dyeing it when she moves out.

June is pretty proud of her for this and compliments Nyx a lot hoping it'll make her feel even just a bit better. Though everyday Nyx just seems closer and closer to doing something... Closer and closer to snapping... What will happen if she snaps? June definitely doesn't want to find out.

Nyx has had one ex by now. And of course, they were abusive too because everyone just hates Nyx. At least that's what she thinks. But not June of course. Nyx feels so trapped in her life. Just torment and pain. Pain she can't escape. Mentally and physically exhausted all the time. She always has eye bags and she looks so... Tired... It's... Scary? Almost terrifying. She looks so sad. So hurt. She's been through and going through so much. Abuse and abuse over and over again.

Nyx really isn't the type to date but when someone asked her out she was tired and thought maybe love could fix her. Instead it only damaged her more. He was very abusive but it was more mentally and emotionally. He would always criticize how she looked and basically make fun of her for being abused. He didn't care about her all that much. She eventually told June and was able to get out of that situation as June acts as almost a bodyguard to Nyx.

Nyx would still frequently experience panic attacks and mental breakdowns and everything seemed to just pile down on her. And she had fake friends too. People were so mean-no abusive-to Nyx. Why? What did she ever do? She's been nothing but kind. Just a kid. She's really just... A kid. Yet people treat her so badly....

Why?
