12:00am, Night 2

Nate sat down in the office chair and turned on the laptop. He looked through the security cameras, expecting to see the animatronics in their rightful places. However, the curtain to Pirate Cove was wide open, and the MainStage was completely empty. "Huh." Nate said to himself, seeing if he could find any of the animatronics in other place. Nate flipped through cameras, but he didn't see any of them. Suddenly, as his eyes were fixed on the screen, Foxy popped out of the vent above him. Nate let out a loud scream, but quickly calmed down once he realized that it was just the fox. "Foxy, seriously?! You scared the crap out of me!" Nate scolded, but the animatronic fox just laughed. "Where are the others?" Nate asked. Foxy pointed to the hallway and made a series of grunts and growls. Nate got up and made his way to the right door, he looked down the hallway to see the door to kitchen wide open. That's why he couldn't find them, the kitchen camera had been broken since his first night. "Midnight snack?" Nate turned back to Foxy, who just nodded. Nate shrugged and went back to his desk, sitting down in the chair. "Well, since you're here, do you want to help me with something?" Nate asked the fox. "Yar!" Foxy exclaimed, hurrying over. Nate pulled backpack from out under the desk and unzipped it, reaching his hand inside he began pulling out tools and miscellaneous items. Foxy looked up at Nate, confused. "I figured we could work on a little project to pass the time." Nate said, taking out a small, electronic head. "How about we build a little friend?" Foxy started jumping up and down with excitement, which told Nate that he agreed with the idea. Nate smiled, taking out the rest of the supplies they would need. "Did we hear the word "friend?"" Chica's voice came from behind them. "Yeah, do you guys want to help?" Nate turned towards them. The other animatronics all ran towards Nate excitedly, and he couldn't help but chuckle at their enthusiasm. "Alright! Let's get started!" Nate exclaimed. He and the animatronics spent the following hours working away at their project, while the animals painted different parts, Nate carefully rigged up circuit boards.   They put all the pieces together, arms, hands, wheels, the little animatronic head. Nate tightened screws while the animatronics made a little balloon. When they were done, they had created a little computer-controlled friend. It had a balloon in it's hand, a blue and red striped shirt, a little hat with a propeller on the top of it's head, and big, light-up eyes, that Nate had programmed to double as cameras. "Okay, now we just have to see if it works." Nate told everyone. He placed the little creation on the floor and pulled out his own personal laptop, then he typed a command into the program. The project's eyes lit up and gave a little electronic "hello!" Nate looked at the animatronics excitedly, then he began to control the little creation. It moved in a circle with an electrical whir, and the cameras Nate had put in it's eyes showed him it's point of view on the laptop screen. "It works!" Freddy exclaimed. "Look at it go!" Bonnie cheered. "Great job, guys! Now we just need to give it a name." Nate told them. They all thought for a moment, trying to come up with something. "How about Nate, Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy's friend?!" Bonnie suggested. Everyone looked at him and shook their heads, that name was way too long. "What about Balloon Boy? For the little balloon in his hand?" Nate asked. "Perfect!" Chica replied, and the other animatronics shouted in agreement. Nate turned to look at the clock, it was 5:56am. "Oh, shit! You guys have to go! It's almost 6!" Nate warned them. "Everyone, back to your places!" Freddy yelled, scrambling out the door. "Bye, Nate!" The animatronics shouted as they followed Freddy out the door. Foxy gave Nate a friendly growl before climbing back into the vent, Nate smiled and pushed the ventilation system shut behind him. Nate grabbed Balloon Boy and tucked him behind the desk, then he turned the little guy off before shoving his laptop back into his backpack. He zipped it up and tossed it back under the desk, then he turned and faced the hallway as footsteps approached. "Well, you're still here, so I assume you didn't get stuffed into a suit." AJ said as he entered the office. "Uhh, nope! Thankfully." Nate answered.
"Hey, so uh, Scott needs you to stick around for a little while. A kid's having a birthday party today at 11:00am and we're short-staffed, we just need someone to supervise and make sure things are going smoothly. That cool with you? You'll get paid overtime, obviously."
"Oh! Yeah, that's fine. I don't have any plans today."
"Great! I'll be here too, so, if you need any help just let me know."
"Okay, sounds good."
"Alright, I'll be around. You can just hang out here until the party starts."
AJ walked out of the office and began his daily routine. Nate leaned back in the office chair and thought about what he could do while he waited. He decided to clean up a little, the office looked like a bomb had went off. Nate swept the floor and rearranged the shelves, threw away any garbage and junk that didn't matter. He looked at the clock, it was only 7:15am. Nate figured he should try and get some sleep before customers started to arrive. So, he sat back down and kicked his feet up on the desk. He closed his eyes and tried to at least get a few minutes of rest.

Nate awoke to voices coming from another room, the guests for the birthday party had probably arrived. He sat up and switched to the party room camera, where a little boy and his family were setting everything up. A few minutes go by and more guests arrived, soon the whole room was full of kids running around and parents chatting. The animatronics were on stage playing a song, and AJ was in the corner of the room finishing up decorations. Nate watched the camera, making sure that nothing went awry. The party was going well so far, kids were laughing and playing, parents were smiling and the animatronics were putting on a good show. A couple hours in the kids ate cake and the birthday boy opened gifts from his family and friends, it made Nate smile a to see kids enjoying themselves, especially in a place with a not so stellar reputation. Nate began to doze off while watching the footage, his tiredness from earlier beginning to creep up on him. He was having trouble keeping his eyes open, that was until he noticed something odd in the very top of the screen. Nate looked closer, trying to see what it was. It appeared to be a man in a bear costume talking with a kid. Nate was taken aback, he wasn't aware that this was a part of the entertainment. The man in the costume gave Nate a weird feeling, something about him just wasn't right. Nate got up from his chair and started his way towards the party room, he figured it was his job as security guard to investigate the situation. Nate quietly entered the room, trying his best to go unnoticed. As he got a closer look at the man, he noticed that the costume was really creepy. It had words on the front that read "It's me," and the letters seemed to be written in blood. Nate felt his stomach drop at the sight, the thought of that made him sick. Nate knew that he had to intervene, he didn't like this guy being in a room full of children, even if he did work here. "Excuse me?" Nate said to the guy, walking towards him. "Can you help me with something?" The guy looked up from the his conversation with the little boy and nodded his head, beginning to follow Nate out of the room. Nate lead him back to the office, where he then confronted the man. "Who are you?" Nate asked.
"I work here." The man replied.
"Okay, well, that costume is horrifying. It's going freak everyone out."
"So? That little boy seemed to like it."
"That's not my point. I just don't think you should be around while the party is going on."
The man was silent, but his body language suggested that Nate's words had ticked him off. They looked at each other for a minute, Nate was prepared to pick up the phone and call Scott, or the police. "Just do your job." The man said, turning around and leaving the office. Nate sighed, something about that guy did not seem right to him. Suddenly, AJ popped into the office. "Hey, man, uh, you can go home and get some sleep. I've got it covered from now on." AJ told him.
"Oh, you're sure?"
"Yeah, I've got it, go ahead."
"Uhh, okay."
Nate leaned down and grabbed his backpack from under the desk. He swung it over one shoulder before turning to face AJ. "Hey, I have a question."
"What's up?" AJ asked.
"What's the deal with the guy in the costume?"
"Umm, I honestly don't know. He's been here longer than I have, he only comes out when there's a party going on. I just assume he's some type of entertainment for the kids, like a clown or something."
"Huh, okay."
Yeah, a clown was a perfect comparison. Just instead of creepy face paint and balloon animals, it was a creepy guy in an animal costume. "Alright, AJ, see you, man."
"See ya."
Nate walked out of the restaurant, it felt wrong to leave that guy in with the kids, but he hadn't actually done anything wrong. Nate thought that maybe his exhaustion was making him jump to conclusions, and that after a rest he would be thinking clearly. Nate got home and immediately crashed on the couch, still in his shoes and uniform. He slept until it was time to leave for his shift that night.
