"I've had more black eyes in the last month than I've ever had." Pope says causing Estrella to chuckle. The teens decided to head back to the Chateau and have a bonfire of their own. Bringing supplies for smores and other foods to roast on the fire.
"That was building up for years. Rumble in the jungle." JJ says sitting beside Estrella. He jumps as he burns himself, "Ah!"
"Hey, did you really stick up for Sarah?" John B said
"Of course I did." Kie says, "She's not a real Kook."
"Right."
"Yeah, tell that to Topper." Pope says as JJ burns himself again causing Estrella to laugh
"I just want one bite. That..." John B says taking Kie's hot pocket, "Mmm."
"What are you doing?" She says as John B drops it, "No, stop!"
"You're not having any of mine." JJ says
"Oh, wow." Pope says as Charlotte smiles
"I thought you were gonna share." John B says
"I spent the last of my money on that." Kie says as John B stands up
"Sixteen years in most federal prisons." John B says
"I'm stealing your marshmallow." Kie says
"I believe that's a... not even a fair trade." Pope says
"It's not at all. Not even close."
"It's as close as you're gonna get." Estrella shrugs as she finishes putting her smore together.
"Yeah."
"Hey, hey." John B says before shushing them. The teens turn toward him as he stares off toward the bushes. There's a rustle before John B stands up, "Somebody's here."
"You don't think that Topper would..." Kie starts as they all stand up
"I wouldn't put it past him." JJ says
"Do you have your gun?"
"Oh, now she wants the gun." JJ says sarcastically
"Oh, now you don't have the gun?"
"No."
"Isn't that your "secret" weapon?" Kie argues with air quotes
"You think now is the time to be arguing about this stupid shit?" Estrella whispers harshly
"Shut up." Pope whispers
"Jesus." Kie says as they all walk slowly toward the bushes
"Goddamn, now she wants the gun." JJ says
"Hey, who's out there?" John B says
"You Kooks better not try anything." Kie yells
"Who's there?" JJ says
"How y'all doing?" Renfield says coming from behind trees
"It's this piece of shit." Estrella says
"You gotta be kidding me." JJ mumbles
"Lovely evening we're having." Renfield says looking around at the kids, "Look, I, uh... I don't hold a grudge with any of y'all, all right? Especially you, Charlotte."
The girl backs away as he keeps walking toward them, "But this can go hard, or this can go easy." He turns lifting his jacket to show he has nothing on him, "You know what I'm here for."
JJ's grip tightens on the beam he picked up as Estrella turns to Pope.
"Let me give you a little demonstration. You see that swing?" Renfield points, "I got the best bow hunters in the Army Rangers with me hidden."
"Yeah? Mm-hmm." JJ mumbles
Renfield whistles and before any of them can react, an arrow flies past JJ and goes straight into a tree.
"Now, they're out there." Renfield continues as the teens try to locate any of the men, "They'll stick you just as soon as I say so."
Renfield walks past them straight to Pope causing JJ to come up behind him. Without turning around, Renfield whistles causing another arrow to fly. Estrella's arm flies out to grab JJ before he can keep going.
"Uh, uh, uh." Renfield tuts turning to JJ, "We clear?"
Estrella pulls JJ's arm down before grabbing the beam from him. JJ continues looking around as Renfield's attention is back on Pope.
"Now, I'm not gonna give you a countdown or any bullshit like that. I'm just gonna whistle."
Pope pulls the key out, but before Renfield can grab it, he closes his fist, "No."
"Oh." Renfield scoffs
"This key belongs to my family."
Renfield turns towards the others before laughing, "I'm losing my patience with you, Pope."
Just as Renfield puts his fingers to his lips, Pope holds the key out to him. Estrella lets out a sigh of defeat as Renfield smirks.
"Did the right thing, kid." He says taking the key, "Knowing when you don't have a choice is an underappreciated talent. You be safe."
He turns around as JJ stares him down, "Easy there. Y'all have a good night."
Charlotte's eyes catch his as he walks past her. Estrella looks at Pope as the boy pants heavily. Renfield lets out another whistle as the others finally turn to Pope.
"Pope-" Estrella tries
"I'm so sick of this shit." Pope says before walking away from them. Estrella lets out a sigh as Kie begins following him.
