I was a bit hesitant about crime fighting from the last incident, but knew because I had the fear it means to do it anyway. Inhaling slowly, I focused on hearing all the sounds in the city. Honking cars, construction work, tourists and such filled my canal. Narrowing the pitch, I heard a girl getting attacked by some thugs. Speeding over to the location, I yelled.
"Hey! Dickwads."
Walking down the alleyway the men laughed looking me up and down, sizing me up. The woman gazed at me relieved to see a hero to her rescue. One of the men clocked me in the head with a nearby metal pipe. Surprised to see it burst in half as I dipped my head at him.
"Really?"
His eyes got big. I smacked him into the nearby brick wall, the other two grabbed my arms and slammed me into the wall. I kicked one of the thug's knees in causing him to crumble to the ground, I tripped the other one up and slammed his face into the ground knocking him out. Turning his head with my boot he suffered a concussion but nothing more, the other writhing on the ground had a sprained leg. The woman got a few kicks into the one on the ground before scurrying over to my side.
"Thank you so much."
"You're welcome."
She suddenly hugged me, and I patted her back.
"Do you need a lift to the police station?"
Her eyes got big but with excitement, which caused a gentle smirk to crawl across my face. I held her in my arms while landing at the police station, she thanked me again before heading inside. I ignored the evil glares from cops before flying off.
Pop
I stayed in the air for a second to narrow where that came from. I sped into the nearby house.
"Behind me! Now!"
The family members in the living room are behind me and I spread my lightning around them in a fierce field. They were screaming different things but I caught them.
"The baby! My baby!"
The forcefield was stable now, so sped through the house. Chucking some debris out of the way, I grabbed the crying baby. Tearing my cloak to wrap it in, the fire was spreading quickly and I could feel my forcefield weakening. Grunting I blasted some more debris out of my way and ultimately blasted a hole in their house to get them all out safely. The fire department got here quickly and so did the EMT's. I handed the baby to her mother and quickly took a step back. The family expressed their thanks hopping in the ambulance. I knew it was coming so it didn't phase me as much.
"What the fuck is going on?! You could have hit my kids!"
The neighbors were rowdy to be expected, the next people in my face were the police.
"Watch where you blast yeah? You could hurt people-"
"That blast was inches away from my children! Look at me when I'm talking to you!"
I blinked off my fiery pupils, nodding at the police officer then flew off. I'm not sure if it was my workaholic tendencies or a need to distract myself from a growing out in my stomach. I just kept hopping from scene to scene helping who I could. The mix of joy and pain from each scene seemed to further feed into this festering in my throat. At one point when I arrived at a scene flooded with cops, I had to lean on the wall and hold my head. It was a strange throb in the back of my skull.
"Ah..."
"Thunder? You alright?"
His voice was muffled, really everyone was. I felt a light crackle on my thumbs.
"Get clear! Now!"
The cops backed up and I flew off getting as far away from the city as possible. Crash landing in a nearby wheat field.
"Oy! Get off of my property!-"
"STAY BACK!"
I shouted, clutching my chest it felt like I was about to vomit. However, the curling was like a blade slicing through my rib cage. Groaning in agony, I stumbled backward I wasn't far enough. Flashes of my Mom started to cross my mind but I bit my lip hard enough till it was warm to ground myself again, then used my feet to blast me another 100 or so yards. That was all I had left. Out of gas and at my limit, there was no one in my eye line and I collapsed to the ground feeling an energy erupt from my gut.
Fwip
Sizzle
A voice was trying to reach me.
Wheeze
Tick
Tick
Ti-
"Hey! Sup! Fire! I outta..."
The farmer abruptly trailed off and I didn't blame him. The fire that was dangerously close to burning down his crops rose from the ground and circled me instead slowly absorbing into my skin, painting my veins red then shifting into purple. I thought I was going to vomit, gagging and all but instead, I just burped.
"Uh..."
"Call the um...uh..."
I was irked out, the farmer fumbled out his phone scrolling to call the hero hotline.
"Actually...I'll just walk home..."
To be frank, I had become quite delirious at this point. Wobbling back towards the city like a drunker cheerleader. The farmer quickly jumped in front of me.
"Whoa whoa lady, I don't think you should go anywhere."
Wheezing into a chuckle, I clapped softly and he jumped back. I realized my gloves were burnt off and my suit was seared off but thankfully the important bits were covered..mostly.
"I'm fine...scooch I need to go home..."
"Ma'am you're slurring your words like crazy."
"Whaaa...nooo..."
Giggling the superhero hotline people pulled up, and scientists started to scan the area. Another hero, Tulip I recognized caught my back hiding me in the ambulance.
"Oh, heeeeyy Tulip...how are YoU-"
"Oh OH, yeah we need to go, like right now. Let's move out! Let's GO!"
