"Do you think Akira-chan will be there~?"
"Hmm, probably. I'm not sure if he'll be starting though since he's just a first year." Mitsuko replied.
Kazune buzzed with excitement as usual, while Mitsuko indulged her. They sat on the bus together, somewhere near the back. Kazune sat in the window seat which filled Mitsuko with a sense of envy. On her other side was that cocky blond jerk who was seated next to Yamaguchi.
"Akira-chan has gotten so handsome, do you think he has a girlfriend now?" Kazune asked louder than necessary.
Mitsuko frowned at her best friend's words which were undoubtably used to instigate jealousy within Yamaguchi.
"Who knows." She said simply, not wanting to be a part of her scheme.
"Mi-chan, you never want to talk about boys." Kazune whined.
Mitsuko rolled her eyes. "Is that really your complaint?"
Kazune pursed her lips, knowing her best friend read her intentions so easily. She knew her methods weren't ethical, but she was growing weary. If it were the other way around, jealousy would definitely incite her to action.
"Just talk to him." Mitsuko encouraged her quietly. "I'm sure he would be more than happy if you approached him first."
"Yeah but..." Kazune frowned slightly, whispering back to her. "I want him to make the first move."
Mitsuko sighed. "You're more than capable of doing that yourself."
"What about you though?" Kazune asked.
"What about me?" She replied, returning to a normal volume.
"Anyone catch your eye?" Kazune clarified, her voice still quiet. "There's a lot of cute boys in the volleyball club."
Mitsuko cringed. "You know maybe this isn't the best time to talk about that."
"Awww...Not even if they go to another school?" Kazune asked cheekily.
"Back to him?" Mitsuko knitted her brows together.
"I'm just sayinggg you've never told me what you think about him. Like, is he your type, or?" Kazune asked.
Tsukishima raised a brow at her words but said nothing.
"I mean, I'm not sure I really have a type but Kunimi-san has always been kind to me..." Mitsuko started, slowly thinking. "He's an amazing volleyball player and he definitely has a nice face...He's also pretty tall so I guess that could be considered attractive." She continued, not realizing how audible her words were.
"So the Princess likes tall guys, huh? Don't let your boyfriend hear that." Tsukishima teased.
She huffed. "Stop saying that. Namikawa is just a friend."
"So you say." Tsukishima replied, unconvinced.
"It's interesting that the tall part is what stood out to you, Tsukishima." Kazune commented, poking her head out to face him.
"Tch..." was all he managed, unable to find the words to argue with the girl without it going in her favour. He frowned, pissed that she was somehow able to beat him at his own game.
He had no intention of his words somehow circling back to him, but without thinking it through, he inadvertently trapped himself. There was simply no way out of it.
Still, her words irritated him. He barely tolerated the hot-headed girl. Whenever he saw her, all he wanted to do was spew insults. Why would he personally care if she liked tall guys?
