"Your father is in the hospital. Please come now." My heart dropped hearing what the nurse said over the phone. "Leo, I need the keys." I said abruptly. "Okay, is everything alright?" Leo said while throwing me the keys. "No, but I'll be back."
I hopped in the car and made my way to the hospital. When I got there, I stopped at the front desk. "What room is Jung Rodney in?" I asked hurriedly. " Room 401, please sign in, sir." I sighed and signed the paper. I walked quickly to the elevator.
When I made it to the 4th floor, the room was the first one on the left. I walked into the room and saw my brother crying next to my dad. I tried to stay strong, but I felt the tears brimming my eyes.
I sat in the chair next to my brother and hugged him by his side. "Get out, Taehyun. I need to talk to Jay." Our dad said weakly. Tae sobbed a little but nodded his head and left my dad and I alone in the hospital room. "Give me your hand, Jayin." I did as he asked and tried to keep eye contact with him. "I love you like you are my own son. When I took you in, you were a troubled child, but you are so strong now. I'm proud of you, son. Please pass down my company to your kid or Taes. I love you, son. Please don't let my death hinder the way you live. And will you please settle down with someone? I don't want you getting the devils syphilis." He said, adding a little chuckle to the end.
"I-" I couldn't get my words out. By now, there were tears going down my cheeks, and it was getting harder to breathe. "Try not to cry too much, knucklehead, you'll get wrinkles." I couldn't help but laugh with my dad. " I love you, dad." I mustered up the words through my sobs. "I love you too,Jay." He said, patting my head.
Tae walked back into the room, and we all talked about memories. I got to say my goodbyes. I held his hand as he died. I held my brother for an hour before I texted Leo. I needed him. Leo took a cab to the hospital and drove my brother home.
When we got home, my tears were all dried up. I felt like a part of me was ripped away. Leo took me to his room and put me in his comfy bed. Leo went to the kitchen to get snacks. The soft wood like smell of Leo calmed me down. When he came back with my favorite snacks, I couldn't help but tear up again.
When he saw my tears, he hurriedly put the snacks down and hopped next to me on the bed. He held me and whispered in my ear that he was there for me. Which made me cry some more. "I lost my dad, Leo." I said in between sniffles and hard breaths. "I know, Jay, but you'll always have your memories of him. He lived a long, beautiful life." He said while rocking me back and forth and running his hand through my hair.
"Thank you, Leo, for always being here." I said, burying my head more into the crook of his neck. "Of course I'll always be here, Jay."
A week went by, and I didn't do anything. I didn't go to work. I didn't shower. But today was the day of his funeral, so Leo forced me to get up. "Rise and shine, sweetheart." I heard Leo say, turning on the light. I groaned and pulled my blanket over my head. "Cmon, you've been cooped up in here for a week. You need fresh air, and it's your father's funeral." Leo said, pulling the blanket off me. "I know, I know." I rolled my eyes and sat up. " I picked an outfit for you. Take a shower it smells like sardines in here." He said, scrunching up his nose. I rolled my eyes and shooed him away. As he left, I picked up my phone. I groaned, seeing it dead.
I hadn't used it since the night Leo comforted me. I put it on the charger and got out of bed. I grabbed the black suit Leo bought for me. I sighed and grabbed my towel and wash cloth.
The shower felt nice on my skin. I brushed my teeth in the shower. I put my suit on and looked in the mirror. My face was still as handsome as always. I smiled at my dumb jokes and walked out of the foggy bathroom.
"I made you breakfast, eat, and then we will leave." Leo said, leaving the dining room to make a phone call. I ate the breakfast and listened in on his phone call. It was boring he was just talking to his coworker about work plans. I got up and let Leo know I was going to the car. He nodded and threw me the keys. I unlocked the car and started it to play some music. I hopped in the passenger seat and played some random song in my playlist.
