The inventing room was huge and every corner was full of mechanical parts, sticky notes, trinkets, or monitors. On the right wall, a giant monitor hung, black as it was turned off. The floor was just as messy as the walls, but most of it was contained in piles or boxes. Things hung from the ceiling as decoration. Honestly? It was incredible.

I stayed by the door, my feet angled in a way where I could run easily if prompted. Alphys walked into the room, attempting to close the door but I subtly stopped it with my hand while she was turned away.

I made conversation with Alphys, stalling, "You made all of this yourself?"

"Yup!! I mean, the inventing room is nothing special, it's just where I like to keep my um, well, inventing stuff I guess!" Alphys proceeded to give me a tour of the large room. What is she doing? Is she not going to do anything? No, this must be a tactic to get my guard down. If so, it's a really good strategy.
Alphys tour consisted of: pointing to some boxes explaining smart gibberish that I didn't understand; turning on different gadgets that I didn't understand; and accidently breaking a lot of her own stuff. Overall, it was entertaining.

Behind a few boxes, I noticed a doorknob attatched to something metal. "What is that?" I asked harmlessly. Alphys froze, just for a second, then resumed her carefree excitment, "Nothing." She said quickly.
Alphys recovered, finding something else to divert my attention as fast as she could. In her haste, I think she ended up showing me something she didn't want me to know about. She's been avoidng it the whole time.

"This," she said, pointing to a giant metal brace attatched to the wall with wires and circuits hanging from it, "this is the stand I used to create Mettaton! ...oops."

She revealed something she didn't mean to. Whatever Mettaton was, it probably spelt trouble for me. I was prepared to run for the door, until I saw something giant and metal walk through the doorway. Walking. Like, a person. It was so tall that it had to lower it's head to get through the already huge door.
It was covered in pink and black, with an open, confident stance. At first it looked human-like. No, it looked human. But I looked closer and saw the exposed wires and metal, artistic choices with the design. Every part of it was thought out. It's eyes glowed. Chains hanging down from it's waist clinked.
It was eerily comforting.

Eerie in the way that I knew it wasn't human, but it felt so nice to see a familiar species.

Alphys sighed, visibly annoyed, "Magma, meet Mettaton..."

"Did you want something, dear?" Mettaton then saw me, and got angry, "Alphys! You introduced me before I could!?" Mettaton cleared their throat and reintroduced themself, "Magma! Meet... Mettaton!" They said in a showman's manner. What is going on?

Alphys stood beside Mettaton begrudgingly. "I made him 2 decades ago. He's the worst creation I've ever made... He's the worst because he's the best invention ever and I hate him."

"Aw, you don't hate me." Mettaton laughed, then stepped closer to me. Both Mettaton and Alphys are in front of the door. I'm trapped. The robot continued, "So who is this, Alphys? 'Magma'?"

"Yes. She's super cool and wanted to see my inventing room so I gave her a tour."

"Wanted" is a strong word.

Mettaton laughed again, a chestful, booming laugh, "Oh, Alphys! ... and you're sure they actually wanted to? You tend to... force people."

"I don't force anyone!! I never have!!" Alphys shouted, quickly and angry.

"Yeah, cause they normally leave before you can, nobody can stand your yapping."

Yapping is a good way to put it. It even describes her voice in the word itself.
Alphys didn't agree, "I don't 'yap'!!! If I did, people could totally stand it, because you do everyday!!!"
