"So, you want to go to that hero school, huh?" Your father's voice broke the silence one night at the dinner table. It was the moment you had decided to share your dream with your parents. To your surprise, they were mostly supportive but also visibly taken aback. They knew you well enough to understand your social awkwardness. Heroes are typically portrayed as confident, and unafraid to step in and save lives, but you are the opposite. Large crowds and being the center of attention fill you with anxiety, making it difficult for you to envision yourself in such a role.
"U.A. High you mean?" Your mother joined in with a raised brow. She cut a generous piece of her steak before popping it into her mouth. "You want to become a Pro Hero, Y/n?" She asked, her voice muffled from the small amount of food.
"Yes, I want to become a Pro Hero...I-I know that I don't fit the job but I do think that I can make a difference." You spoke in a hushed tone but your parents were able to hear the confidence that ran through your vocal cords. "I recently made a friend, too! I spoke first." You added on quickly.
"So what was all that fuss about Last Sunday?" Your mom snickered. "You're over here worrying about you getting made fun of because you're black and you come back here saying that you've made a friend? Girl please." She said with a shake of her head. Your father and you laughed at this. "Is she nice?"
"Ah, no, it's a boy."
"A boy!? How do you pick up a boy on your first day of school?" Your mom exclaimed. You felt heat rise to your neck and you shook your head frequently.
"Mama, not in that way! He's very sweet!" You argued.
"Sweet is always something that's said about a person you just met, N/n (Nickname). Give us some background." Your dad encouraged. Your mom silently agreed as she turned to you. It wouldn't hurt to share the fact that Deku didn't have a quirk, right? You know your parents, they wouldn't think any less of him just because he didn't have a quirk like everyone else.
"Uh—he's very smart, he helped me take down some notes for my quirk! We walk home together!" You ranted with a slight smile planted on your lips. Your parents seemed to approve of this boy you've been hanging around with for the past week.
"Ohh that's nice! What's his quirk?"
"He doesn't have one."
You shifted awkwardly in your seat as your parents stared at you in silence. Your dad went back to cutting up his steak while your mom kept staring at you. It didn't take a genius to figure that your parents were puzzled that your little friend didn't have a quirk. "Woah. Guess he's one of the 20% of people who don't acquire a quirk." Your mom said, breaking the silence. She set down her fork and put her hands in her lap. "So, he doesn't have a quirk?" You nodded your head at your mother and she hummed. "Does it bother him at all?"
"Well, sorta. People in class tend to make fun of him for believing that he could make it into U.A. Especially this one boy, he's scary..."
"Ah, so there's a hotheaded boy in your class that has a stick up his ass? Classic." Your dad muttered. Your mom slapped his arm in a manner of telling him to hush. "How's he scary?"
"He's loud, overly confident, very high ego—oh, and intimidating. He told Deku to take a swan dive off the roof!" Your mom let out a scoff at what you said, side-eyeing your dad with an unamused expression.
"Kids are horrible. Absolute cruel I tell you. Say Y/n, if I was 'Deku' I would've found a way to get myself a quirk and blow his ass up. Let me guess, he wants to be in the U.A. too?" She said. She crossed her arms and clicked her tongue when you nodded your head at her. "Somebody better report him. U.A. can't have a student who is making other people dive from the roof. Imagine seeing a Pro Hero on TV telling their fans, "Kill yourself." what the hell?" Your father let out a chuckle at your mom's complaints before getting up to put his plate in the sink, taking yours as well and your mother's. "Y/n don't you EVER allow nobody to walk on you if you go to that hero school. I mean it!" Your mom warned.
