MARK

"I'm going to scream," I threatened my dad as he followed me to my room. I heard him sigh. Usually I have no problem with being the family's disappointment but today was different.

My family went to our beach house every year for a few days and frankly I was getting tired of it. I didn't want to play pretend and act like they didn't hate us. For me it was obvious that they only talked to us because we inherited the beach house and my parents didn't mind sharing it with them.

"Come on, son. Spending a weekend with your family shouldn't be that big of an issue."

"Since when is the weekend four days long?" I asked, sitting down on my bed. "And you know why is it an issue."

My parents fully supported me when I came out to them. My dad even went out to get stickers. On the other hand my extended family tend to had an. . . interesting idea about gay people.

"Okay, they might not be the most supporting people-"

"Charles offered me to buy a hot pink dress, because 'if I want to suck a dick so bad, I should dress like the bitch I am.'" I cut him off. "His words, not mine."

He gaped at me. "Uncle Charles?"

"Uncle Charles." I nodded. "Look, I don't care if you want to hang out with them or whatever, but please leave me out of it."

"I don't know Mark. I don't want to leave you home alone. At the end of the day, you're just a kid."

"I'm seventeen! I'm old enough to look after myself, and you know that too." Now it was my turn to sigh. "Can I at least sleep over one of my friend? Please?"

"You have friends?"

I shoot him a dirty look. Kicking me when I'm already down, typical dad. Okay, he technically wasn't wrong, I did not have any friends but I'd rather find someone random to spend my time with than being with my lovely family.

"Rude. Of course I have!" I lied while tried to look offended. "I can introduce you to them. You know, just to make sure that I will be in good hands."

He sighed again. I wouldn't be surprised if in five years we'd only communicate with sighs.

"Alright. If I can talk to their parents you can stay with them."

I smiled and gave him an overly cheerful thank you.

Now that Plan 'let's-avoid-my-family-at-all-cost' was finished I needed to worry about this other thing. So Plan 'find-someone-who'll-adopt-me' was it.

"Oh, and you're telling your mother about this."

Fuck.

RORY

I was talking to Adam in the school's garden when he suddenly stopped in the middle of his sentence.

"What?" I asked shaking him. "Why are you being stupid again?"

He just smirked at me while nodding to my left. I turned my head just to see Mark walking towards the building.

I quickly shook my head. There was no way that I was ready to talk to him.

"Well if you're not going, I will," he shrugged turning to Marks direction.

"Adam, I swear to god, stop!" I pleaded as he started going towards him.

"No. You were sitting on your ass for a week. It's my time to shine now."

I mumbled a quiet oh my god. He did said that he would make a move if I didn't but I thought I have little bit more time that a week. There were so many things that could go wrong with me talking to Mark. I wasn't sure if I was ready for the risk.

I was thinking about this - about us - every single day. Him being straight is the least that I needed to worry about. Just the thought of coming out to my religious mother, my kinda asshole but sometimes nice brother and my friends was terrifying and made me anxious.

"Hey! Mark!" Adam shouted making me stop.

Did he- Did he really just-

"Shut up, you idiot!" I hit his arm. He smiled at me before ran off to Mark. I timidly followed him.

Mark tilted his head as he looked at us. He was breathtaking with his baggy clothes and big brown eyes. Even confused he had the beauty of an angel. Maybe he was one.

When I said breathtaking I meant it. I must have looked so stupid with my weird breathing but it wasn't my fault that he was perfect.

"Hey dude, how are you?" asked Adam, acting like they were best friends.

Mark furrowed his brows and crossed his arms in front of him. "What do you want?"

"Oh, though crowd," laughed Adam. "Um so. Hi! We were thinking," who the hell is we? "and thought to invite you to eat lunch together," he elbowed me, a silent way to ask me to say something.

"Yeah," I managed to stutter out. "Because we thought that you might be hangry- hungry. Because you didn't eat today. Or I don't know that, obviously. But I meant that I didn't see you eat in school today- no wait it's not like I was acting like a stalker I just-"

"So!" Adam cut me off before I could embarrass myself any further. "You wanna come?"

Mark looked even more confused. "I'm fine."

Of course he declined this, why would he say yes  to us.

"Alrighty but if you'd change your mind we'll be there," Adam patted his shoulder and I'm pretty sure I saw him pulling a disgusted face. I didn't blame him I would probably act the same if I were in his shoes.

"I won't. But thanks," with this he walked away.

I slowly turned to Adam who looked at the nearest tree, acting like it was the most interesting thing ever.

"I'm going to kill you."
