...

Junhui had always been the kind of guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was open, expressive, and unapologetically bold when it came to his feelings. So, when he met Minghao for the first time, it was like something inside him clicked. Junhui didn’t just like Minghao — he fell for him, hard and fast, like a rush of emotion he couldn't control.

Minghao, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. He was quiet, reserved, with a calm presence that could settle even the loudest room. Where Junhui was all loud affection and excitement, Minghao was composed and cautious, like someone who measured every word and movement before offering it up. Yet, for some reason, those differences only made Junhui love him more.

From the moment they met, Junhui had been smitten. Minghao didn’t need to say much to capture his attention. It was in the little things — the way Minghao would tuck a strand of hair behind his ear when he was thinking, the soft look in his eyes when he was lost in thought, the way he’d laugh under his breath when Junhui said something silly. Junhui lived for those moments.

It didn’t take long for everyone around them to notice that Junhui was head over heels. His friends teased him about it constantly, calling him “Lover Boy” because of the way he’d go on and on about Minghao, even when Minghao wasn’t around.

“You’re obsessed,” Soonyoung would say, laughing as Junhui talked about how Minghao had looked that day during lunch. “It’s cute, but man, you’ve got it bad.”

Junhui didn’t deny it. “Of course I do,” he’d reply with a grin. “Have you seen him? He’s perfect.”

But for all of Junhui’s obvious affection, Minghao remained hard to read. He was kind and thoughtful, always showing small signs of care — sharing food, sending little texts to check in, listening intently when Junhui talked. But he wasn’t as openly affectionate as Junhui, and it sometimes left Junhui wondering if Minghao felt the same way.

Still, Junhui didn’t let that uncertainty stop him. He kept pursuing Minghao, always finding ways to show him how much he cared. He’d bring Minghao his favorite coffee without asking, show up at his door with snacks for late-night study sessions, and send little messages that were more cheesy than romantic, but full of genuine affection.

One evening, after spending the afternoon together studying, Junhui found himself staring at Minghao as they sat side by side on the floor of Minghao’s bedroom. Minghao was focused on his notes, his hair falling slightly over his eyes, and Junhui couldn’t help but smile. He was so madly in love that it hurt sometimes, but in the best way possible.

“Why are you staring at me?” Minghao asked without looking up, clearly aware of Junhui’s gaze.

Junhui chuckled, leaning back on his hands. “Because you’re beautiful.”

Minghao paused for a second, glancing at him with a raised eyebrow. “You’re always saying stuff like that.”

“And I mean it every time.”

Minghao shook his head slightly, a small smile playing on his lips as he turned back to his notes. “You’re ridiculous, you know that?”

“Maybe,” Junhui said, his voice softening, “but I’m serious.”

The room fell quiet for a moment, the only sound the faint rustling of papers as Minghao continued working. Junhui’s heart pounded in his chest, the words on the tip of his tongue, the ones he’d been dying to say for so long.

“I love you,” he blurted out, unable to hold it in any longer.

Minghao froze, his hand stilling on the page. Slowly, he turned to look at Junhui, his eyes wide, a mixture of surprise and something else — something deeper — flickering in them.

Junhui swallowed nervously, suddenly unsure of himself. “I know I’m intense,” he added quickly, his voice softer now. “And I know you’re not like me. You’re more… reserved, and I get that. But I can’t help it, Hao. I love you, and I want you to know that.”

For a long moment, Minghao didn’t say anything, and Junhui’s heart felt like it was about to explode from the silence. But then, slowly, Minghao set his notes aside and shifted to face Junhui fully. There was something different in his expression now, something vulnerable that Junhui had rarely seen.

“You really love me?” Minghao asked, his voice quiet, almost uncertain.

Junhui nodded, his gaze never leaving Minghao’s. “More than anything.”

Minghao bit his lip, his eyes flicking down to his hands for a moment before meeting Junhui’s again. “You’re so sure of yourself. You’ve always been that way, and it’s… overwhelming sometimes.”

Junhui’s heart clenched at that, and he started to speak, to apologize for being too much, but Minghao held up a hand, stopping him.

“It’s not a bad thing,” Minghao continued, his voice soft. “It’s just… I’m not used to it. People don’t usually stick around when they realize I’m not as open or easy to read. But you — you never gave up.”

Junhui’s breath caught in his throat as Minghao’s words sank in. There was something raw in the way Minghao was speaking, something that made Junhui’s chest ache.

“I didn’t give up because I meant it,” Junhui whispered. “I love everything about you, even the parts you don’t show easily.”

Minghao’s lips curved into a small, genuine smile. “I know you do. And that’s why… I’m scared.”

Junhui’s heart dropped, but before he could react, Minghao reached out, gently taking Junhui’s hand in his. His touch was soft but firm, grounding Junhui in a way that made everything else disappear.

“I’m scared,” Minghao repeated, “because I think I love you too.”

Junhui’s breath hitched, his heart racing as he stared at Minghao, unable to believe the words he’d just heard. “You think?”

Minghao smiled, his eyes crinkling at the edges in that way that always made Junhui’s heart skip. “I know. I love you too.”

Junhui felt a rush of relief, joy flooding his chest as he squeezed Minghao’s hand. “You don’t have to be scared,” he whispered. “I’m not going anywhere. I’m yours, Hao. For as long as you’ll have me.”

Minghao’s smile softened, and for the first time, he leaned in, closing the distance between them. Their lips met in a gentle kiss, the warmth of it spreading through Junhui’s entire body. It wasn’t rushed or frantic — it was soft, sweet, and full of all the things they hadn’t said before.

When they pulled away, Minghao rested his forehead against Junhui’s, his eyes closed as he let out a small, content sigh. “You really are ridiculous, you know that?”

Junhui chuckled, his heart feeling lighter than it had in months. “Maybe, but I’m your ridiculous.”

Minghao laughed softly, and Junhui could feel the tension that had been between them slowly melting away.

“Yeah,” Minghao whispered, his voice full of affection as he opened his eyes and looked at Junhui. “You’re my ridiculous lover boy.”

And in that moment, Junhui knew that no matter what came next, no matter how long it had taken them to get here, they were exactly where they were meant to be.

Together.
