Tom was struggling to keep a straight face. After a week of seeing Lucy for the first time and being told to talk to her, Jamie wasn't any closer. Tom wasn't helping. In fact it was getting harder for Jamie to talk to her. Tom wasn't giving him bad advice or giving him some scenarios to put him off. It was the constant urging and jokes.
Jamie was use to it. But this was different. After what happened with his previous relationship, Jamie was crushed. His confidence had been knocked severely. And the problem was, he wasn't very confident before he got with Charlie. So now he was back where he was but worse.
"I'm pretty sure there isn't a world record for how long someone can go without talking to a girl they liked" Tom chuckled. "Shut up" Jamie groaned embarrassedly. Tom was his best friend but at times he could really be a pain in the ass.
As Tom, Jamie and the rest of Jamie's class stood around outside the classroom waiting, their teacher showed up with another class which was Tom's. "Listen up, we're having a move around with some of the students. This is due to performance in classes since we believe it would be best to move the students struggling a bit into one class and the others who are doing better in the other" The teacher announced which caused various reactions. Mostly laughter and cheering.
The teacher began reading out the names that would be staying with his class. Jamie's was one of them which he didn't care about too much. Tom's name was called out which caught their attention. "Sweet" Tom grinned, fist bumping Jamie. "Tara, Sophie and lastly, Lucy" the teacher finished.
Jamie's eyes went big. What!? No Way this can't be happening! Jamie thought, his heart beating. Tom grinned as his and Jamie's eyes landed on the girl. It was definitely her.
Shit... Jamie mentally facepalmed himself as Tom did his best to not laugh out loud. The two classes began to split up as Jamie's class piled into the classroom. Jamie and Tom rushed over to the corner and sat down together while everyone else sat down. It was noisy as the teacher prepared the lesson.
Lucy sat down a few tables away from Jamie and Tom. He watched her but also tried to not make it too obvious that he was staring. Tom had the biggest smile on his face. He was loving every second and it dawned on Jamie. Not only was Lucy in one of his classes but so was Tom. He was going to tease him until his last breath at this rate.
As the teacher began the lesson, Jamie glanced over at Lucy. She looked around, gathering her surroundings and who was in the class. Then it happened. For the first time since he first saw her, Lucy's eyes fell onto him. But it wasn't a glance. She didn't look at him while he wasn't looking at her. Both their eyes locked for the very first time.
Jamie felt his heart pound in his chest. Without a doubt, Jamie was sweating. Lucy then gave him a smile before facing the front of his class. That one single little gesture almost made Jamie's heart stop. She had acknowledged him and unlike anyone else she looked at, she gave him a smile. Tom had seen the whole thing. He leaned over to Jamie's ear. "Easy tiger, I don't think the teachers would appreciate you flooding the classroom with your sweaty ass" Tom whispered and Jamie blushed in embarrassment, focusing on the lesson.
"Ugh that was a long lesson" Jamie groaned, covering his face as Chris chuckled. The pair was laying down on the grass in a big open field. The sky was almost clear of clouds and the sun sat in the sky keeping the pair warm. "The thing is, it didn't stop either. At lunch he was cracking every joke he could. I wanted to either die of embarrassment or be sent home" Jamie added.
Chris did his best not to laugh out loud. Jamie sighed as Chris regained his composure. "Sorry" Chris said as Jamie shrugged. "It's okay, it's Tom" Jamie sighed as he stared up to the sky.
Silence fell on the pair as they watched the clouds crawl along in the sky at a turtle's pace. "You really like her don't you" Chris spoke up, taking Jamie's attention. "I do yeah" Jamie admitted. Chris nodded, looking to the sky.
"I do think Tom is right, you know" Chris pointed out, making Jamie look at Chris. Chris turned his head to look at Jamie and smiled. "I know. To be honest, he isn't wrong. I can't not do or say anything forever" Jamie admitted, looking back to the sky and Chris copied him.
Jamie breathed out slowly. "I will tell her, I just need time and the right moment" Jamie added softly. "I know you do" Chris replied. Jamie slowly turned his head to look at Chris. "But from what I understand and from what you've told me, when you have a feeling for someone and you love them well..." Chris paused, turning to look at Jamie.
"There's no time like the present" Chris smiled. Jamie felt his face heat up a little and nodded. Chris is right, just like Tom. But Chris explained it perfectly. Just like everything about Chris, it makes him perfect. "So... What do you want to do?" Chris asked softly. His smile never leaving his face.
Jamie thought for a moment. He wanted to answer but something was stopping him. At first it was his mind. But then he started to hear a noise in the background. A muffled sound and Jamie frowned as he tried to focus on what he was hearing.
All of a sudden his eyes shot open. Jamie was laying in bed as he heard his mum shout at something before opening the front door and slamming it shut. Jamie sat up and looked at the clock. It was gone eleven at night. His dad was shouting something. Jamie could make out his dad swearing.
Jamie got out of bed, grabbed some trousers and a hoodie before leaving his room. He went downstairs and found his dad sitting in the living room on his phone. "Where's mum?" Jamie asked quietly. "She walked out in her usual moods. Getting fed up of it" his dad practically barked back.
"I'm going to go find her" Jamie replied but didn't get a response. Jamie went to put his shoes on and heard his dad mumbling to himself. There he goes again, talking to himself. Jamie thought, rolling his eyes. Jamie grabbed his own house keys, opened the door and walked out.
Jamie jogged to the park round the corner but didn't spot her. He sighed and turned back, running the other way. Jamie ran to the end of his street and turned left. Luck was on his side or common sense as he found her sitting on a bench by herself. She was staring at the ground, her arms folded.
He walked over to her and sat down next to her. "Found you" Jamie said softly. "You shouldn't be out here at this time on your own" she replied. "It's fine, I'm not a kid" Jamie responded. "It doesn't matter, I don't like you going out at this time on your own" his mum told him.
"I don't like you going out at this time on your own. Also, I never go out at this time of night" Jamie pointed out. "Good point" she replied, making him smile a little. She sighed heavily and shook her head. "He really gets to me at times. Sometimes I just want to throw him out" she admitted softly.
Jamie nodded at her words. "He's an idiot" Jamie muttered. "Hm" she agreed. "I'd use stronger words but I'm scared you'll tell me off for using bad language too" Jamie added, making her chuckle. He smiled at her response.
They sat in silence for a few moments, both thinking heavily. "I just don't know what to do anymore" she told him, making Jamie look at her. Jamie thought about what Tom and Chris had said to him about Lucy.
"Well... What do you want to do?" Jamie asked her softly. She stared ahead and shrugged. "Sometimes I ask myself why I bother. Why do I keep him around? Sometimes I even tell myself I should just get rid of him because we would be better off without him" she answered truthfully. Jamie nodded and thought hard about her answer. "Maybe sometimes... You have to listen to yourself and do what you are thinking" Jamie told her...
