"Is love good?" Chris wondered curiously. "Yeah definitely, it honestly feels amazing" Jamie replied, making Chris smile a little. "Do you remember when I talked to you about different emotions and stuff?" Jamie asked. "Yeah" Chris nodded. "Well, love makes you feel really happy. You get this feeling in your stomach, it's all floppy" Jamie described.
"That feels good?" Chris asked with a chuckle, making Jamie smile. "When you are in love and you get that feeling yeah, it feels good. It feels nice. It makes you really happy and nervous but... Mostly good nervous" Jamie explained with a smile as he thought about Lucy.
Chris was silent for a few moments as he thought hard. "So love is an emotion?" Chris asked and Jamie shook his head. "Not quite... it's a feeling but also it's a feeling towards someone else. You can love someone romantically or love a brother or sister which is different because you're related" Jamie pointed out, making Chris nod.
"Can you love a friend?" Chris said and Jamie smiled. "Yeah I guess" Jamie shrugged, making Chris smile. "Yes! I love my friend Jamie!" Chris exclaimed, nudging Jamie's shoulder and they both laughed. "Don't get carried away, I do need to also teach you about how love works and what people do when they love each other" Jamie added before blushing a little about the comment. I'm basically going to give Chris the talk, that's going to be... Something. Jamie thought to himself.
"I can't wait" Chis grinned, making Jamie laugh and lean against Chris as they both laughed together. They sat and continued talking about other things as things began to slowly blur out.
Jamie's eyes opened and he sighed. He saw the clock and groaned seeing he had to get up and ready for school. His eyes wandered up to the ceiling and he thought about Lucy. Thinking about her made his stomach twist into a knot a little before his mind went to what Tom had said to him. He then thought about Chris and smiled.
"Jamie, come on you have to get to school!" His mum called from downstairs and he sighed angrily before getting up and out of bed. Once he was washed and dressed, Jamie headed to the kitchen where he found his mum rushing about. He got some cereal, glancing at his mum a few times.
Things have become a little more tense lately. His parents were arguing more frequently and when they weren't arguing, there was a heavy silence. There was no reason for the rise in arguments, there never was. It had been like that ever since Jamie could remember.
Usually the arguments were about little things. So little, Jamie often wondered why each problem was such a big deal. There was no need for the arguments. Jamie walked round the kitchen table to his seat. He saw his dad getting his shoes ready for work.
As Jamie sat down, his dad got his coat and left the house. He didn't say anything, he just walked out. Jamie knew there had been some argument before he woke up. Jamie sighed quietly and ate his breakfast.
"I really thought when people fall in love, everything is all happy and stuff. You know, in love with someone and all is good?" Jamie muttered as he walked with Tom towards school. "Love isn't always exactly a fairytale you know" Tom replied with a shrug.
"I know that but come on, this is ridiculous. I can't remember the last time my mom and dad did anything together. Go to the pub, go for dinner, go on a holiday. Just them two together. I haven't even seen them kiss!" Jamie pointed out.
"Gross" Tom cringed making Jamie roll his eyes. "You know what I mean dummy" Jamie sighed as they neared their school. "I guess they just aren't in love anymore. Not as much as before at least" Tom sighed. "What's the point though? It's just getting worse. Why does my dad have to be such an asshole in general" Jamie said with a sigh, turning the corner to the entrance of the school.
"I guess they need to figure it out themselves" Tom replied as Jamie nodded a little in agreement. They stopped and waited as well as all the other students waiting for the doors to open. Jamie's eyes wandered at everyone who had arrived for school and his eyes widened when he spotted her. Lucy.
Instantly, Jamie felt the butterflies in his stomach. "Speaking of figuring it out, have you figured out when you are going to talk to your girlfriend?" Tom smirked, nudging Jamie's arm. "She's not my girlfriend, shut up" Jamie sighed, turning away.
Tom rolled his eyes as he watched his friend put his hands in his pockets. "We'll be leaving school entirely by the time you talk to her at this rate" Tom told him. Jamie breathed sadly, glancing over at Lucy. Her smile made him nervous. Really nervous. "I'll talk to her just... Give me a bit of time" Jamie replied softly.
"Well don't take too long" Tom said as the doors opened and everyone began to move towards the entrance of the school. Jamie watched Lucy disappear into the sea of other students as he walked into the school, thinking about what Tom said.
That afternoon when Jamie got home, he was greeted by his parents in the middle of another argument. He sighed as he found them shouting in the kitchen. Jamie couldn't make out what the problem was this time and he didn't care. He was fed up with walking in from school and having to be met with such a negative environment.
Jamie didn't go into the kitchen and went straight upstairs to his room. Once inside, Jamie closed the door and dropped his bag to the floor. The arguing was now muffled as he sat down at his desk. He grabbed his scrapbook and flicked through some of the pages.
A lot of it was notes with some doodles. He landed on the last page he doodled on which was one page of Lucy and the other page was of Chris. Jamie smiled at both doodles and closed his eyes slowly, leaning back in his chair. Everything gradually faded away as his mind drifted to the place he longed for and was excited to return too.
Jamie's eyes opened to find himself at a park. He smiled instantly when he saw Chris on the swings. Jamie hurried over to join him. "Hey!" Chris greeted warmly like always. It never tired Jamie. "Hey!" Jamie replied, sitting down on the free swing next to Chris.
"Are you okay?" Chris asked as Jamie began to swing back and forth. "Yeah, I'm just happy to be back here with you" Jamie answered with a smile. "I'm always happy to see you too" Chris laughed and Jamie joined in. "School okay?" Chris questioned in a curious tone.
Jamie shrugged as he swung back and forth. "Same as always, some good, some of the same" Jamie answered, looking at Chris and raising his eyebrow at his expression. "And Lucy?" Chris grinned, making Jamie groan. Chris burst out laughing in the response.
"Nothing really has happened yet" Jamie admitted shyly. "You haven't talked to her yet?" Chis asked, a little surprise. "Well... I only saw her yesterday, give me time" Jamie admitted and Chris nodded slowly in understandment.
Silence fell on the pair as they stared ahead. "Have you... Ever been in love with someone before?" Jamie wondered softly, making Chris look at him. "No... Not that I can remember which isn't a lot. Truthfully, I don't remember anything before I met you. I just kinda existed all of a sudden" Chris answered.
"Oh... Yeah. I'm sorry" Jamie replied sheepishly. Chris just smiled at Jamie. "It's okay because all my memories are of you" Chris told him, making Jamie smile. They then started swinging back and forth on the swings again...
