Jamie stared at the invitations in his hand. It's lunch time and that morning his mum had handed him some invitations for his birthday to hand out. Tom approached him and grinned when he saw what was in his best friend's hands. "Are those invitations I see?" Tom asked, putting his hands in his pockets and standing next to Jamie.
"Yeah, well done hawkeye" Jamie replied, rolling his eyes. "Shut up" Tom laughed. Jamie smiled at Tom before sighing. "Okay so, do you want me to hand out a few for you?" Tom asked and Jamie nodded in response. Tom saw Lucy walking with a friend and he looked back at Jamie. "What about your girlfriend?" Tom smirked.
"Shut up" Jamie groaned, walking a few steps away as he thought deeply. "You've got to hand it to her soon, your birthday is this weekend" Tom pointed out with a sigh. "I know, I know" Jamie replied in a frustrated tone. Jamie noticed Lucy talking to her friend and looked back down at the invitations in his hands.
Tom sighed, shaking his head. "Okay look, because you're being a pussy how about I give her an invitation? She's in my next class" Tom suggested. "I'm not a pussy" Jamie protested. "Yeah, course not" Tom mumbled. "Well?" Tom added impatiently. Jamie glanced at Tom before handing him some invitations. "Okay... Thanks Tom" Jamie half smiled. "Yes, yes I know I'm amazing" Tom praised himself with a smug smile.
Jamie was a nervous wreck for the next few hours. The next time he would see his best friend would be after school. He had no idea what was said in his classes, it was all a blur as he awaited for the day to be over. Finally the time came as he rushed out of his class and headed to the main entrance of the school to wait for Tom.
As Jamie waited, he kept an eye out to see if he could spot Lucy amongst the crowd. After a few minutes, Tom crept up from behind and suddenly planted his hands on Jamie's shoulders making him jump. "Oh shi-!" Jamie exclaimed, holding his chest. Tom was just laughing as Jamie tried to calm his heartbeat. "Damn it Tom what the hell?!" Jamie angrily stated, breathing hard.
"Calm down, we can't have you in hospital this weekend otherwise you will miss your chance to talk to your girlfriend" Tom told him. Jamie was about to reply angrily but paused, his eyes widening. "Wait, you mean she's coming to my birthday party?!" Jamie asked excitedly. Tom had a big smug look on his face as he folded his arms. "Come on, you've got to tell me! What did she say?" Jamie added as the pair started walking off.
"Oh thank you Tom, my best friend for asking that girl I like to my own party because I'm a giant wuss" Tom said in a mocking voice making Jamie groan in annoyance. "Alright, okay. Thank you, I appreciate it a lot" Jamie replied. "That's better" Tom smirked. "What happened?!" Jamie immediately asked, Tom sighing in response. "I went up to her and told her that it's my best friends' birthday and he's having a party. He asked me to hand a few invitations. Do you want to come?" Tom explained.
The pair quickly crossed the road before Tom finished explaining. "She said yeah sure and that was it. I gave her the invite" Tom added, smiling at Jamie. "That's it? She... She accepted? And she's coming to my party?" Jamie said in a stunned tone. "Yeah, so prepare yourself because this is literally your best chance" Tom told him sternly and Jamie nodded slowly.
Jamie and Chris sat together on the ground in a big field as the sun beamed down on them. "You okay?" Chris asked Jamie softly. "Hm?" Jamie hummed, looking at Chris who was staring back at him. "Sorry, yeah I'm okay. I'm just thinking about this weekend, I'm a little nervous" Jamie admitted. "Why?" Chris said. "Well, Lucy will be there. It'll be the first time I'll talk to her" Jamie explained. "But why will you be nervous? It's great you will finally get to talk to her" Chris smiled happily.
"I know it's just... Well... What if she doesn't like me?" Jamie softly answered, lowering his head. "What? Not like you? Jamie, you're amazing!" Chris exclaimed, raising his arms and making Jamie laugh. "Come on, I'm not that amazing" Jamie responded shyly. "You are to me. I think she will like you a lot. You're fun, nice and smart" Chris went on happily. "Hey it's her I want to say all that to me if she likes me" Jamie laughed, blushing and shaking his head.
