Sophie's POV: Takes place right after Comfort
Sophie got up immediately and ran to the leap master, surprisingly not tripping up the stairs. "Shores Of Solace!" Sophie called out.
She arrived on the sand, barely maintaining her balance in the shifting grains. There was a slight breeze that carried the salty smell of the ocean. The sun had started to touch the horizon, casting a golden-orange glow. Sophie spotted Keefe in the porch swing and she forcefully made her way over. She quietly climbed up the stairs and stood silently at the top of the steps.
Sophie watched the glow from the sky illuminate his blonde wisps of hair. His gaze was focused intently on his sketchbook, where his hands moved rapidly back and forth. Sophie couldn't tell what he was drawing from her stance though."Keefe?" Sophie whispered. Keefe slowly lifted his head and focused his ice-blue eyes onto hers. His face flickered with confusion before his mouth quirked into a smirk.
"Miss me already Foster?" Keefe stood and strode over to where Sophie was standing.
"Keefe, I... I..." Sophie knew what she wanted to say, she just couldn't make her voice form the words.
Keefe's expression filled with serenity. "What's wrong?" He looked as if he was trying to decipher her emotions, which were pretty confusing.
"N-nothing's wrong, per se. I just... gods, I don't know how to say it." Sophie folded her arms and looked down, becoming invested in the floor.
Keefe lightly rested his hands on Sophie's upper arms, making Sophie shiver. He flinched when their skin made contact, probably from the emotions he was sensing.
"Really?"
Sophie looked up. His eyes filled with a hope that could only mean he knew what Sophie was trying to convey. Sophie nodded meekly, feeling weak in the knees. Keefe grinned, a large genuine grin.
"You have no idea how long I've waited for this." Keefe said quietly.
"How... how long?" Sophie asked tentatively.
Keefe thought for a moment. "Going on five years now."
Sophie met his eyes, shocked. "Why didn't you say anything?"
"Because. You were happy, and I wasn't going to do something that could jeopardize your happiness." Keefe explained, smiling sadly.
"Oh Keefe. I probably would've been happier with you." Sophie admitted, a little surprised with her own bluntness. She realized it was true though, and that filled her heart with a warm feeling she couldn't describe.
Keefe ran a hand through his tousled blond hair. "I can't believe... wow... you-you..." Keefe couldn't seem to say the words either.
So Sophie cut him off. She stood on her tip-toes and met his gaze for one moment. Then she leaned in before she could change her mind.
Their lips met, sending a warm shiver throughout Sophie's body. His lips were warm and soft, and she could feel him smiling against her mouth. She smiled a little too, her arms wrapping around his neck.
Sophie had always wondered if kissing was as great as everyone made it out to be. But kissing Keefe was So. Much. Better.
Sophie pulled away, sucking in a breath. She kept her eyes closed for a moment before meeting his eyes. Keefe was smiling, a big happy smile.
He broke the silence. "You're my first kiss, y'know?"
Sophie laughed softly. "Really? I wouldn't have thought..."
Keefe leaned his forehead against Sophie's, his smile fading a little. "Please don't let me mess this up. I don't want to mess this up."
Sophie pulled him in for a hug. "You're not going to mess this up Keefe. You couldn't do anything to mess it up." Her voice was muffled against his shoulder.
Keefe's only response was hugging Sophie tighter against him. They stood there for a while, simply holding each other as the sun dipped below the horizon.
"Do you wanna see what I was sketching before you came over?" Keefe asked quietly.
Sophie nodded and pulled away. "Sure."
Keefe led her over to the swinging porch bench and sat down, flipping through his sketchbook to find the page he was working on. He looked at it for a moment before handing the sketchbook to Sophie.
Sophie gently placed it in her lap and quickly brought her hands up to her mouth, which was hanging open in amazement. "Oh my gods, Keefe, this is amazing."
It was a drawing of the entire group, much like the painting Keefe had given her previously, except they were all sitting at in the common room of Alluvetere laughing. Each of them had grins on their faces, even Tam. Sophie traced her finger down the page, admiring the detail. She looked over each and every person, settling on how Keefe drew her.
Sketch-Sophie's face was grinning, and she was doubling over laughing. Her hair was falling in front of her face and she looked... really, really happy. She also looked prettier than she remembered seeing herself.
Sophie looked at Keefe, eyes wide. "Is this... is this how you see me?"
Keefe gave her a sad smile. "Yeah, it is. And someday I'm gonna make you see yourself that way too."
Sophie's eyes started to water and she looked back down at the sketch, thankful that it was getting dark. Sophie wrapped her arms around his torso, hugging him.
"Thank you, Keefe. For being there for me, for waiting for me, for everything."
"I'll always be here for you Sophie. No matter what."
They sat there, content and at peace, watching the last few days of sunlight fade from the sky.
Oh my gods I finally finished. It took so long and I was so excited to write this. I'm pretty sure I was grinning like an idiot too. I hope you guys enjoyed this!
