Sophie got dressed quickly into the hideous Foxfire uniforms. As much as she didn't want to go to school today, she forced herself to. She had been feeling nauseous all morning, and it definitely wasn't getting better. But with everything that had been happening lately, Sophie didn't want to worry anyone with what is probably just a stomach ache.
Sophie quickly grabbed one of the blitzen-berry muffins Edaline had left for her. Grady and Edaline were on a trip somewhere in the Mediterranean to capture a loose plesiosaur, so Sophie was on her own for today.
She finished her muffin and made her way back up to the leapmaster. "Foxfire!" She called.
Sophie stumbled into Foxfire, a headache blazing through her skull. Great. The gnawing feeling in her stomach hadn't faded either.
She didn't have time to find any of her friends, so she went straight to class. Unfortunately, she was still late. And to make matters worse, it was Lady Cadence's class.
"Late. Again. That's another week of detention for you Miss Foster. If you can't start arriving on time, I'll have to send a note home." Lady Cadence scolded.
Sophie looked down sheepishly, breathing heavier than normal. She convinced herself it was just from running to class. "Sorry Lady Cadence. It won't happen again."
She huffed and proceeded with the lesson. Sophie tried to mimic using Lady Cadence's tips, and the best she got was saying "Hi," in Edaline's voice. After severely disappointing Lady Cadence, Sophie made her way down the halls to her next class.
Just before she got there, a wave of dizziness hit her, making her stumble. She would've crashed to the ground if a pair of strong arms hadn't caught her shoulders.
"Falling for me already Foster?"
Sophie looked up to see Keefe smirking down at her, his hair perfectly disheveled as usual.
Sophie blushed as she scrambled to stand back up. "Sorry, Keefe. Just extra clumsy today."
"No need to apologise, I'm pretty used to it at this point. And- hey, you alright?" Keefe cut himself off when Sophie started to sway on her feet.
Clearly, the dizziness had not faded yet.
Sophie shook her head to clear the mental fog clouding her mind. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just a head rush."
"You sure about that? You can't lie to an empath y'know, especially one who is feeling only a fraction of the nausea and headache." Keefe fanned the air, as if that would stop the onslaught of emotions.
Stupid empaths. "I'm fine Keefe. I need to get to class and you... need to get back to ditching."
Keefe narrowed his eyes. "Fine. But I'm keeping my eye on you."
Sophie rolled her eyes in what seemed like exasperation and not the sudden feeling of needing to faint. She walked past him, somehow managing to stay in a straight line.
Sophie couldn't have been more grateful when lunch came around. History had just made her tired, and Sophie was trying to tell herself that after she ate she would feel better. She got her lunch- a few slimy looking things that tasted like burritos- and sat down between Biana and Dex.
Everyone was chatting and laughing like normal while Sophie picked at her food. As much as she wanted to eat, her stomach just didn't agree. Sophie also tried to ignore Keefe's worried eyes boring into her head.
The rest of the day passed in a blur, and the pain in her head hadn't faded one bit. Her throat was scratchy and dry, no matter how many bottles of youth she drank, and her hunger mixed with the nausea. Sophie was able to avoid Keefe as she made her way to the leapmaster, thankfully. She couldn't deal with his nonsense right then.
