Sophie's POV: Human AU

"Where are we going?" Sophie asked from the passenger's seat.

Keefe's eyes were focused on the dirt road, but he smirked when he answered. "You'll see."

Sophie sighed. She wasn't going to get a real answer out of him. Sophie perked up when she noticed that the dirt road ahead ended, opening up into a large field. The sun had already set below the horizon, letting the stars fill up the sky.

"Um, Keefe? I hate to break this to you but... I'm fairly sure we aren't supposed to drive off the road."

"Eh. It'll be fine." Keefe didn't even slow the truck when they transitioned onto the uneven grass.

Sophie gripped her seatbelt, feeling slightly nervous as the truck rocked back and forth while they drove along the field. It was huge, with a circle of trees surrounding the expanse. Sophie glanced behind her, noticing that the road they had come off of wasn't visible anymore, the focus taken by the forest.
Finally, Keefe slowed to a stop on top of a small upslope in the middle of the field, which was probably the highest point. Keefe unbuckled and hopped out, and Sophie followed suit. She walked along the side of the truck, watching Keefe climb into the truck bed with confusion.

"What're you doing?" Sophie neared the end of the bed.

"C'mere." Keefe held out a hand-which Sophie took-and pulled her onto the truck bed.

Keefe situated a small stepping stool right up against the back windshield, right in the center. He stepped up onto it, hefting himself on top of the truck.

"Uh, Keefe?" Sophie questioned.

Keefe flashed her a crooked grin and gestured for her to sit beside him. He moved further back when Sophie joined him, until his legs were no longer dangling off the edge. Sophie scooted back with him.

"What's going on?" Sophie smiled quizzically at him when he lied down on his back.

"Just lay down, Foster." He patted the space next to him.

Sophie unsurely lied back, her head resting against Keefe's shoulder. The cold of the metal against her back gave her goosebumps. She snuggled in closer to Keefe, making sure to make a mental note to never take Keefe's body warmth for granted.

"Look." He pointed up to the sky.

Sophie looked, her lips pulling into a grin. "Wow." She breathed. "It's beautiful."

Above her was a clear black sky full of stars, shimmering in shades of silvers and whites. The crescent moon shone brightly just above the
tree-line. The thick line of the Milkyway was clearly visible, hints of blue and purple mixed with the pale glow. Sophie spotted almost all of the constellations she had memorized, the most significant being the Big and Little Dipper.

"I know. It's incredible. Much like The Hair." Keefe joked, though his face remained dead serious.

Sophie nudged him. "Way to ruin the sentiment, Mister Smirks-a-lot."

Keefe broke into his trademark smirk. "I had an opportunity. I took it."

Sophie shook her head. "You're an idiot." She remarked lovingly.

"Love you too Foster."

Sophie nestled closer as Keefe planted a kiss on her temple. They both returned to looking at the sky. She smiled as her eyes scanned the stars. This, she thought, was perfect.

The perfect starry night.

I know, it's another short one, but I really enjoyed writing it. It was really sweet. I based this story after the song Freeze, by Kygo. Though you could say it also represents one of Kygo's other songs, Stargazing. I personally feel like this oneshot relates more to the lyrics of Freeze though. You should give it a listen. It's actually a really sad song, it makes me cry almost every time I hear it.

But oh well.

Question:
What's a song that makes you cry-or tear up-whenever you listen to it?

Mine is Freeze. It's so beautiful but sad.
