"Do we really have to move away, I just made friends here?." I said to my dad, folding my arms. "Yes, it will be a fresh start for the both of us, and they aren't you're friends they just use you." He said truthfully, while glancing at me before focusing back on the road. "But did it really have to be America.?" I said almost chuckling at the stupidity. "You're the only teenage girl who doesn't want to live in America." He laughed, I just rolled my eyes.
We got to the airport about 3 hours before our flight, my dad got nervous at airports so he always dragged me there as early as possible. We got through security and bag checks with about 2 hours to spare. My dad found us a seat at our gate and I told him I was going to go look around the shops, he waved me off. I walked over to a shop with lots of chocolate and sweets and I knew immediately I had to stock up for the plane ride, so I bought a big box of molteasers, two bags of jellies and two bottles of Fanta. I felt a bit embarrassed walking back to my seat with all my snacks.
I had dosed off in my seat, when an announcement on the intercom startled me awake. "Gate 107 to Minnesota, is now boarding." My dad basically jumped out of his seat grabbing both our suitcases and urging me to line up to get on the plane.
We were now seated in our seats on the plane, I immediately put my headphones on and took out my snacks to munch on during the 8 hour flight.
By one hour in I had already eaten all my sweets and had only one Fanta left. I planned to just sleep for a bit because I forgot to charge my headphones before leaving so now they were almost dead and I had nothing else to do, my dad was also passed out cold beside me so I couldn't even talk to him, so I leaned my head against the window and went to sleep.I was woken up by my dad saying we only had an hour before landing I was shocked because that meant I had slept for a whole 6 hours, instead of questioning it I just opened up my second bottle of Fanta, which was disgustingly warm now. I looked outside my window and I could see the ground, which meant we were going to be landing soon, I couldn't help but feel a bit excited now.
When we landed my dad rushed us off the plane to grab our suitcases from the pickups, after we had got our bags we sped out and got into a taxi. "To Addison Apartments please." My dad said to the driver, I looked out the window beside me and watched all the trees go past, I wondered to myself what our new place would look like, what my school would be like, would I even make any friends this time, or will I just get bullied again. My dad took me out of my thoughts by saying. "We are here, our new home!" I looked at the run down apartment building and my jaw dropped. "It looks like a dump." I said with a disgusted look on my face. "Try give it a chance alright." My dad said to me.
When we got up to our apartment, room 404 I memorised so that I wouldn't get locked out with nowhere to go. I walked around the apartment, it was alright, not the best, not the worst. "Why don't you go introduce yourself to the neighbours, while I start unpacking.." My dad said balancing a box on his knee. "Okay." I said waving him off and walking out the door. l decided I was going to start on the first floor and make my way up to the top. I got in the elevator and noticed I needed a keycard for the basement, which I didn't have so I just went to floor one. The doors opened and I seen a door that had a mail slot with the word "Addison" across it so I knocked on that door. The mail slot opened and a man's voice came out "Hello, how may I be of service?" He spoke cheerfully. "My name is Connie Dove, I just moved into 404, with my dad." I said with a chirpy voice. "Ah yes, is there a problem?" He said kindly. "Oh no, I was just introducing myself to my new neighbours." I said happily. "Very good, farewell friend." And with that he closed the slot, he was odd. Nobody else was in on floor one so I went up the elevator to floor two. I knocked on 204, 203 and 201 and got no answer, finally I knocked on 202, A boy with big round glasses, freckles, bushy curly ginger hair and braces opened the door. "Hello?" He said, he had a slight lisp. "Hey, I'm Connie Dove, I just moved here with my dad." I said smiling. "Cool. Are you going to be attending Nockfell High? Also what age are you?" He questioned me. "Yes, I will be going there and I'm 17." I said awkwardly. "Very cool. I'm Todd Morrison by the way." He said kindly. "Nice to meet you Todd, but I best be going now, bye." I said waving him off. He closed the door. I went up to floor three but nobody was home on that floor, so I went up to my floor. I knocked on 401 but there was no answer. Then I knocked on 402, a tall skinny man with bright blue hair opened the door. "Hello, can I help you?" He said with a smile. "My name is Connie Dove, I just moved here with my dad." I said smiling back. "Me and my son Sal, moved here just over a year ago, he's probably in the basement with Larry, I have a keycard, one second just let me grab it." He said walking away from the door, I was a bit nervous because I don't really get along with people my age especially boys. The man came back and handed me a keycard for the basement. "Thank you very much, have a good day." I said trying to be polite. "You too, kid." He shut the door. I got in the elevator and put in the keycard and went down to the basement. I walked out of the elevator and see a brown door different to all the other doors in this place. I knocked but no one answered, so I walked in, I could hear loud metal music playing out of a bedroom which said 'GET OUT' across the front. I knocked on the door and the music stopped. "Who is it?" A voice called. "My name is Connie Dove, I just moved here with my dad." I said nervously. "Come on in." He said. I opened the door and seen a lanky boy, with long brown hair and a big nose. "Hey I'm Larry." He said. "Nice to meet you!" I said enthusiastically. "My buddy Sal is just in the toilet, so you can meet him in a minute too." He said smiling. "I think I was just talking to his dad, he gave me the keycard." I said fidgeting with my hands. "Yeah, if he has blue hair it's him." He laughed. I giggled back. The door opened behind me, I turned around to say hi, but I gasped. "Omg!" I yelled. He had a mask on, it was white, with one piece being a pinky colour. He had blue hair in two pigtails, I didn't really take in the rest because I was scared so bad. "Jeez, one of the worst reactions I've ever gotten." The masked man said chuckling. "I'm sorry you just scared me, cool mask where did you get it?" I said trying to lighten the mood. "Its a prosthetic." He said numbly. "Omg, I'm really sorry, this is such a bad first impression." I said mumbling my words. "It's alright, I've had people say worse things, don't worry, what's your name?" He said changing the subject. "Connie Dove. I just moved here with my dad." I said looking down. "I'm Sal, or Sally Face whichever you want to call me." He said while sitting down on the floor. "Sally Face, that's a bit rude, no?" I asked. "If you own what people use against you, they can't use it against you anymore." He said looking at me. "Oh well, I'll be calling you Sal." I said smiling. "So, do you like metal?" Larry asked me. "Fuck yeah!" I said laughing. "Have you heard of Sanity's Fall?" He asked nearly jumping up and down out of excitement. "I've heard of them, but not my go to." I said shrugging my shoulders. "Damn, thought you were gonna be the one." He laughed. "Not today." I laughed back. Sal got up and walked over to me. "Are you going to Nockfell High?" He said curiously. "Yeah, I am, do you guys go there." I asked. "Yeah, our whole group does, Todd, Me, Larry, Chug, Maple and Ash." Sal said. "Oh I met Todd, in 202?" I asked. "Yeah, that's him." Larry said. "Is it your first day tomorrow?" Sal asked me. "Yeah, I guess so, I'm kinda nervous." I said nervously laughing. "Don't be the only asshole there is this guy Travis. But he has his own problems." Sal said looking at Larry. "Okay well, I'm gonna head up to my room, I wanna rest for tomorrow, nice meeting you both." I said walking towards Larry's bedroom door. "Cya, see ya tomorrow." Larry said. "What floor you on?" Sal asked. "Four." I answered. "I am too, 402." He added. "I'm 404." I said before leaving the room and going back to the elevator. I made it up to my room and knocked so my dad would open it, but no response. I decided to check his location on my phone and it said he was at some local pub, I sighed nothing new but I thought fresh start meant fresh start. I didn't have a key to get into my room so I just sat down on the floor waiting. The elevator dinged, I was praying it was my dad. "What are you doing on the floor?" Someone asked, I looked up and it was Sal. "My dad isn't home and I have no key." I said laughing slightly. "Wanna come to my room?" He asked. "Uhm.. sure." I said standing up and following him to his room. He opened the door and he dad greeted us. "Me and Connie are just gonna sit in my room, okay Dad" Sal said to his father. "That's fine Sal." He answered. Sal lead me to his room and I sat down on his bed, then I looked around the room, there was cool posters and he had a sick electric guitar and then I turned around and seen the most fluffiest, most gorgeous, most handsome kitty I've ever seen in my life. I instantly ran over to him and started petting him and scratching under his chin. I was talking in my animal voice to him and I could hear Sal laughing quietly. "Whats his name?" I asked. "Gizmo, or Giz for short." He said. "Omg, he is the most gorgeous cat I've ever seen Sal." I said holding Gizmo. "Are you alright?" Sal said to me, which caught me off guard. "Yes, why?" I asked. "Nothing. Sorry." He said and walked towards his TV. I was a little weirded out by him asking that while I was smiling, but I brushed it off. Sal walked over and sat beside me. "Why did you move here?" He asked. My body kinda froze. "Well.. we uhm.. we moved here because I wasn't having a good time back home." I said petting Gizmo as a distraction. "What do you mean?" He asked flicking through channels. "Just, bullies and stuff." I said nervously laughing. "Sorry." He said before putting on a random channel. "Its okay, I'm over it." I said smiling. My phone started buzzing. "Shit, it's my dad, I better go." I said putting Gizmo back down on the bed. "Okay, I'll see you tomorrow, for school." Sal said waving me goodbye. I walked back to my apartment. "Where were you?" My dad said drunkenly. "At one of my new friend's apartment." I answered. "Okay, go to bed you have school tomorrow." He said softly.
"Okay goodnight Dad." I said as I walked to my room. I got into some pjs and did my skincare. My phone buzzed so I picked it up. "New friend request from 'SallyF@ce." I already knew who it was so I accepted but then I thought about how he got my Snapchat, but then again my name on snap is literally just "ConnieDove." So it's not hard to miss me. I get a text. "You get home okay?" From Sal. "Sal I live two doors away. I can't of possibly got home not okay 😭." I answered smiling to myself. "I know, I know I was just checking." He texted back. "How nice of you to worry. Well anyway I don't want to look like a hot mess of my first day of school, so goodnight Sal." I said, I put my phone down on my beside table. But my phone buzzed again and I was too curious so I checked. "Its already 3:46 am Connie." The text read, damn he was right, I'm so fucked for tomorrow. "Shit. What am I gonna do." I texted back. "Sleep?" He texted then he followed it up with a laughing face. "Goodnight then 🙄" I texted this time turning my phone off so I didn't pick it up again. Tomorrow was going to be a long day.
