It was Sal's birthday, I had been up all night planning his party. Ash was on balloons, Larry on edibles, Chug and Maples on food and Todd and Neil on decorations. I had the most important job, don't let Sal go to Larry's basement all day.

I hadn't slept at all, like not at all. But I was making my way to Sal's place. I didn't knock and walked straight into his room. He was still in bed. "Wake up!" I yelled. Scaring the life out of him. "It's your birthday!" I exclaimed piling loads of wrapped gifts onto his bed. "You shouldn't have gotten this much." He said looking up at me in pure shock, there was about 20 gifts. "Shut up and open them." I said sitting down beside him getting under the covers. The first one he opened was a box of stickers. He was confused. "I got stickers especially designed for prosthetic body parts. So we can make your mask more friendly." I said smiling. He told me to pick one to put on it and handed me his prosthetic. "This one." I said, placing it on the pink side of the mask. It was a love heart that had our initials on it. He blushed and put the last back down on the floor. Next one was a new phone, his one was pretty battered now. "A phone..Carrie how much was this?" He asked. "Not saying." I said laughing. He put it back in the box. The next one was a spirit box, he watched a video about one so I got him one. He hugged me. The next gifts were just picture books of us and small things. But he appreciated every single one. "Do you wanna go on a date?" I asked him. If I get him out of the apartments then he can't get to Larry's. "Yeah sure.." He said getting out of bed. "Just let me get dressed." He said, I turned to face the wall. "I'm ready." He said.

We went to a new restaurant that only opened the week before. "This is very fancy." I said in a posh accent. He laughed. The food was so good there. When we were done our food, I checked my phone. "Everything is set up, you can bring him now." Larry texted. "On way, will be about fifteen minutes." I texted back.

We were walking back and I thought of something. "If you were getting married, would you wear your mask?" I asked Sal. "I suppose not." He said. I just smiled.

We got back to the apartments. "Oh Sal, wanna come down basement with me. I have to get something off Larry." I said making up something. "Yeah, sure." He said, we got to the basement and I knocked twice on Larry's door. He opened it and everybody yelled "SURPRISE." Sal's eyes lit up. "You guys did this for me?" He asked quietly. "Well thank Connie she set everything up." Ash said handing him a slice of cake. "Thank you." Sal turned to me and hugged me.

We had a great night. Me, Sal and Larry were so fucking high, we couldn't even remember our names. "Who's up for some karaoke." Ash said, making us all wake up out of our daze. "Me!" I shouted standing up and grabbing a microphone. "Sal, get up here." I said handing him the other microphone. He stood up. "What song does yous want?" Ash asked laughing at us. Our eyes were nearly shut because of how stoned we were, my eyes kinda burned too. "Man, anything one direction." I said waving my hands around. Ash chose to put on "Story Of My Life." I started dancing to the music. "I don't know any one direction songs." Sal said looking at the screen. "Oh well!" I laughed. The song started and I was jamming. Sal just stood there for the whole thing.

Todd and Neil had gone back up to his room and Ash had gone home. Maple and Chug left before anyone because she wasn't feeling well. So it was now only me, Larry and Sal. "You wanna head upstairs?" Sal asked me. "Yeah, if you're ready" I said not wanting to rush him on his on birthday. "Goodnight guys." Larry said fist bumping both of us. "Night Larry." I said.

We got up to Sal's room. "Thank you for all that by the way, you didn't have to do that." He said softly. "I wanted to." I said, yawning just after my sentence. "You look tired." He said rubbing my cheek. "You did all day." He said concerned. "Well in all honesty I didn't sleep last night setting up your party." I said shrugging my shoulders. "That's stupid, lay down and go to sleep." He said pissed off. "Hey, you can't be mad at me, I just gave you the best birthday ever." I said getting up on my knees and wrapping my arm around his neck from behind. "Yeah, but at the cost of your health, you know I'd think it's dumb." He said annoyed. I had a great idea. To act sad. "Oh okay." I said sadly. I took my arms away from him and turned over on his bed. I thought he would have turned and hugged me or something but instead he got off the bed and left the room. I sat up confused. Okay now I was actually upset. I lay back down facing the wall. Why is he so mad? Maybe he's just joking. I heard the shower running. I went on my phone and scrolled on it.

He came back in the room about 30-40 minutes later. I was still awake somehow. I think it was because I was worried about why he was so mad. "Hey." I said smiling at him. He just nodded his head. "If you're going to be like that. I'm going home." I said standing up off his bed. He grabbed my arm. "Sit down." He said firmly. So I sat. "Turn around." He said again but even firmer. "Lay down and go to sleep." He said colder than I've ever heard him talk. "O-okay.." I felt kinda scared of him in this moment, but I knew he would never do anything to me. I turned over and lay down facing the wall, I tried so hard for him today and he's mad at me. I felt so disappointed in myself. I wiped my eyes of stray tears. He got in the bed. But turned his back to me. Was he trying to teach me a lesson to not risk myself for him. I didn't care about what lesson this was. It made me sob. I covered my mouth with my hand to stifle any noises. I felt movement behind me. "Stop." He said sternly. I didn't say anything, him staying that just made more tears fall out my eyes. "Stop Connie." He said again but a bit softer. Again I didn't reply. I felt like something heavy was on my chest. Breathing became difficult quick. "Connie?" He said, I could hear him sitting up and turning over. My breath became fast and panicked. My hands were shaking covering my mouth. Sal grabbed me and sat me up. "Breathe.. come on. Copy me." He said soothingly. "It's alright, it's just a panic attack." He said reassuringly. "I'm sorry. I should've never have spoken to you like that." He said pulling me into his chest. I still couldn't breathe properly. "Breathe baby-." He paused after the word came out of his mouth. I was also shocked which made me focus on that and not my thoughts. He didn't say anything after that. He just lay down. With my head on his chest and my leg over his waist. "I'm sorry." He said after a while. "It's okay." I said running my hand over his chest. He kissed the top my head. "That will never happen again." He told me. "It's okay Sal." I reminded him. "Doesn't feel okay." He muttered. I knew he was going to go on about this all night. I sat up looking into his eyes. "Wha-." Before he could even get a word out, my lips were on his. He kissed back passionately. I broke away from the kiss. "Goodnight Sal." I said before returning to my place on his chest.
"Goodnight Connie."
