TW!-Mentions of violence

[Xiao's POV]

I was just patrolling around the local area a few days later, when I began to hear a commotion coming from a nearby beach I was walking past.

Coming to a halt behind a large boulder, I began to survey the scene. With shock, I realised that once again it was y/n, fighting a large group of lawachurls. I didn't see anyone nearby who seemed in danger or in need of being rescued by such a large group of monsters, so I began to wonder why y/n would but themselves up against such a large group of mobs such as this. Did they just enjoy risking their life? Did they find thrill in being close to death?

Somehow, for some reason, I found myself transfixed by how they fought. They fought with such a effective technique, I could not see a single scratch land on them. But at the same time, the way they fought was so graceful, fluid even.

While watching them fight, I began to feel a heavy, damp and almost evil aura over the area. It felt very much like a demonic aura or demonic presence, but with a slight hint of humanity to it. I found this weird as I have never come across a demon before which had retained some of their humanity.

I tried to focus on where the heaviest density of demonic aura was coming from but I kept centring on y/n, which I found weird since I would have sensed it sooner if they were a demon.

And if they were, a very well disguised demon at that.

But I couldn't ignore a sign of demonic presence.

So I prepared myself to detain y/n, to see if they really were a demon. I was hoping I was right. If they weren't and I put them through any sort of pain trying to uncover their true self, I would feel so terrible. Hurting a human soul is the last thing I would ever want to do.

As I took a step forward, my foot landed on a twig. (Ah, the iconic twig move. Something I fear will be popping up in a lot of my fics)

Y/n whipped around, their piercing e/c eyes scanning for where the sound came from.

It was too dangerous for me to act now so I disappeared away, back to the safety of Wangshu Inn. I had to try a different approach.

An idea came to me, but it wasn't an idea I liked. But it was the safest idea. I'd have to get close to them, gain their trust, so I could make them lower their guard. Trust me. Then I could get them to do anything I needed to see if they were a demon without them questioning me.

It wasn't an idea I liked. Human contact and socialising wasn't something I was big on. And Archon's forbid I had to get romantic. But If y/n really was a demon, I had to know. I couldn't let a demon roam freely around Liyue.
